New Place

Arrived at reception with our bags which is located inside the hotel only to be told that the room was in the next block and not inside the hotel it felt like a shalay at butllins , on arrival to our room I was very disappointed small and very standard, then when going to the leisure center you must walk out of the building something I've never done when staying at other hotels , the sauna room was small and really only suitable for two people no steam room, good sized swimming pool and lovely jacuzzi unfortunately was not working on my second night so more disappointment, I would not recommend this hotel as there are better options and better deals elsewhere.

Great old style hotel with decent small size pool and sauna. Friendly staff. Heritage building. Slightly worn at places especially outside areas like tennis court and gardens are not fully maintained.

This was out first visit to the hotel for over 20 years, when it was previously owned by the DeVere Group, and overall we left disappointed. On the plus side our room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the mews rooms are well appointed close to the manor house, leisure facilities & car park. On the negative side the rear door to our room was left unlocked on arrival, and the toiletries weren't replaced. In addition this is the first 3/4 Star hotel that didn't include biscuits with the tea & coffee facilities. The cooked breakfast was very average, and both coffee machines were not working on the first morning. The waiter said he would fix the machines and bring me a coffee, but I'd finished my breakfast before I went back out to the machines to find they'd been fixed, and then got myself a coffee. On the second morning my wife wasn't offered tea liked she'd been offered on the first morning. Lastly the bar prices are exorbitant, having paid nearly £21 for a pint of lager and a large glass of white wine, which is over 50% than the local pubs!

Food superb, staff lovely, all very helpful. As I’ve said before I would prefer to be served tea and coffee at breakfast rather than a machine. A simple tweak and would make a really nice touch, coffee never really hot from machines. As said I cannot fault the staff. I was on my own and they were all very friendly. Dinner was amazing in the restaurant as is the bar menu. The house itself it’s spectacular but you don’t stay in the house you stay in chalet block style. Outside they don’t look so good but modern, spotless, comfortable. I will be staying twice again for this course and looking forward to it and I’m fussy!

Did not think the facilities were good for disabled people

There was a strange (not a nice) smell in the room. I asked to change rooms but the only other one I was offered was a small ground floor 'motel' style room overlooking the carpark which was really dark. The room itself was thick with dust/hair. All round the table / desklamp / phone and tea and coffee making facilities. I had to wash the cups before using them. The room had obviously not been cleaned. The spa was equally dirty and poorly maintained. I stayed in this hotel about 8 years ago and it was really nice. It obviously has not been well maintained or adequately cleaned in that time.

Overall, I had a good stay at New Place. The room was clean and comfortable, and the leisure facilities were good. My only criticism concerns the catering options, which are obscenely expensive for poor quality. A half-pint bottle of lemonade cost £3.75, which is absurd; a small chicken burger and some chips cost £22, and the chicken was badly overcooked; a ham sandwich (which I had assumed would be on good bread, but was in fact simply on sliced white bread) cost £12. The only chips available were 'chunky' chips, with no fries available at all. Further, I was disappointed at how limited the options were for room service. My time at the hotel coincided with the middle of a storm, and I didn't particularly want to have to brave the rain to go to the main hotel building for food. But upon calling (there was no room service menu in the room), I was told that the only options were pizza or a hamburger (with no cheese or other addons available). This was very disappointing considering how extensive the main restaurant menu is. In all, I enjoyed my stay, but I would hope that the hotel works on its menus and makes catering easier (and cheaper!) because it is currently unbelievably expensive for poor quality food.

Fantastic grounds and buildings. Very clean and lovely staff, just needs a little renovation to address some of the minor issues with appearance. Food was sufficient to meet our needs but nothing outstanding. Main car park can fill up quickly but there are plenty of other options so isn’t a showstopper.
