Summary: I don't understand the rating on this resort, is it customers who've been there rating it or management? I know based on what we were hearing from other customers that quite a few of us were not impressed. I would not recommend this resort, the rooms are tired and dated, the food is less than average and boring, we had gastro issues after eating the over-priced BBQ dinner ($60 a head). If you really want to enjoy Rorotonga, stay somewhere else. As paying guests we were not able to enjoy the 'entertainment' because they overbooked and misinformed us about needing to book - we asked, were told we don't need to book, but actually we did so we paid the high prices and had to sit outside and not see the 'cultural performances'. It's a rort. The drinks and food are over-priced, compared to other places on the island. If you only take this pieced of advice, eat away from the resort, there are way better cafes and restaurants off the resort (and definitely don't go to the Italian place by the Edgewater (it's also run by the Edgewater so it's more of the same). Check in: We arrived on a late flight and it was around 11pm before we got to the resort. We'd been told we'd get a bottle of water upon arrival (which we didn't) and the resort had no facilities that we could find to cater to incoming late night customers needing water. We had to wait until the next day before we could access safe drinking water. The resort: Don't be fooled by the fancy, well staged photos, parts of the resort is rundown, tired and in need of some major renovations - you will see this in the photos. There are some parts of the resort that are okay, but others that are disappointing. Roosters and chickens roam freely through the resort and while this may seem 'cute', at 4am (every morning) the non stop crowing of the rooster impacts on sleep, well being - by the time we all left the resort we were exhausted. There is no excuse for this, the Roosters could be relocated if the management had a mind of customer comfort, which they don't. Service: Mixed. Some of the reception/front facing staff were friendly enough but no one one was overly helpful and often times we received conflicting information around transport that we ended up giving up going to reception for information. The house keeping staff and gardners seemed friendly and welcoming, the young girl at the activities hut was also nice but for the most part we found the staff seemed quite unhappy, functional but not particularly welcoming. The room: Initially Garden view - until we upgraded to get away from the Roosters crowing. Did I mention the cockroaches - I took a photo of one in our room. As you will see by the photos uploaded the first room was shabby. It was disgusting actually, this was supposed to be a 4 star resort. It's not. it lacked privacy (people could see into our bathroom window at night when the light was on). The decor was old, in need of a paint and smelly (damp/mould).
