Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya Reviews

Kind of annex of the sister hotel next door. In the annex is an onsen, washing machine and dryer (free to use), vending machines with beer and drinks and noodles. Room is basic. I had a great view on the river. Small balcony, but dirty and no chair. The annex is okay to stay if you are hiking. The best thing is the sister hotel. A great onsen with outdoor bath. Nice souvenir shop with a bit more food. Staff are super friendly and helpful. They also provide bus services (bring and pickup to Hongu Taisha, the other onsen places, the trailhead busstop) which you can use! Just call them if you want to be picked up. I did not realize Kawayu Onsen is a very small place with NO supermarket. If you did not book breakfast (served at the sister) bring your own into town or eat instant noodles. There are 2 small restaurants with delicious local food.

There are not a lot of cheaper options in the area. This hotel is a typical "cheap" Japanese hotel. All was as expected: small rooms, super clean, brad facilities. All in all, charming, but old.

This hotel is okay, it was a bit dingy and the room smelt a little bit of smoke - but I was totally fine with that because you get to use the great onsen at the partner hotel next door (spent my time there), and the area was really nice. I liked it as a cheap option along the kumano kodo.

Sansuikan Matsuya is definitely not as good as the Sansuikan Midori next door, and is even older. It looks like it has been there for decades without being renovated. The bathroom is quite satisfactory, and the heated toilet seat is very comfortable, which is much better than Urashima, which is cold. The mattress and quilt are indeed not very clean, but it's okay. The key point is that Sansuikan can use the hot springs of Midori, both indoors and outdoors can be used for free. There are also meals. If you order at Sansuikan, you will eat at Midori. Dinner is 3300, breakfast is 1650, both are buffets. The environment is good and the dishes taste good. Alcohol is charged separately, which is not very cost-effective. If you want to go out in the morning, make a reservation, and there is a free shuttle bus that can be sent to Hongu Taisha or Shinkamon. Overall, it exceeded my expectations.

Relatively average. The advantage is that you can go to the Green House next door to share their hot spring pool, because this one is very small. The disadvantage is that the facilities are very old and the hygiene is average. The corner room on the fourth floor we stayed in was very cold in winter and the air conditioner was too old to work. It was very cold at night in the mountainous areas, so I had to cover myself with two down quilts, otherwise I would catch a cold.

The environment outside the room is very beautiful, with clear rivers and lush tall and straight fir trees, like a fairy tale world. There is also an outdoor hot spring. Worth a visit.

If you plan to stay for one night and set out for hiking early the next morning, this place is perfect. It costs a few hundred bucks and includes breakfast and dinner. Of course, there is no room service and the room is indeed small, but you can use the hot spring in the main hotel, which is pretty good.

The hotel is divided into the main building and Matsuya. This store is Matsuya, which has older facilities. There is no indoor shower room, only a small bathhouse on the third floor. Outdoor hot springs need to be used in the main building. It is best to book hotel meals in advance. When I went there, I was told that dinner was already booked, so I had to eat outside. There is no supermarket near Kawayu Station, only a small restaurant, set meals, the price is only about one-third of the hotel dinner.

I stayed here with male friends. Recommended for staying overnight without meals. The sheets were clean, but there were stains on the futon. I was satisfied with the hot spring water.

The room is super small, and it is difficult to open the suitcase. This is not the worst, the bedding is dirty, with blood stains, the quilt cover has only one side, and the quilt is visible on the other side, with many stains! There are only toilets in the room and no shower facilities. You need to use the small public men's or women's baths on the 3rd floor. Not everyone wants to take a group bath without intervals! Seeing that the room was too poor, I also looked for a photo, but only took a photo of the outdoor hot spring outside the hotel!
