Aberdeen Arms Hotel Tarland

It's a bit rough and ready but welcome was genuine and warm. It is a budget hotel and the sheets were clean and bed were very comfortable and that alone was worth the money. There is a lack of budget hotels or b&bs in the area its mainly higher end. Which when you are volunteering (and funding yourself) at a sporting event, is all you need. It suited to stay in Alford and for that reason I would stay there again and most likely will next year.

Please look at the photos to form your own opinion. Sadly due to the aggression received upon complaining I will not describe the experience. A basic hotel room still means clean. I have never stayed anywhere like this. Ever.

Evening meal and a few drinks in this lovely local hotel. Food was spot on and inexpensive, drinks were value for money. A good honest pub with very friendly staff, we will definitely return before heading home.

Brilliant home made meals, stay, rooms, breakfast and service with great company, locals and hosts. Will return & highly recommend. Exceptional value for money from this Royal Deeside family run hotel.

Very friendly & helpful. Not large selection of on tap beer but you know it did not matter. We did not eat there but had very good menu for veggies & you could get a take away. After a long walk sitting outside in the sun was very pleasant. I’d recommend it.

Booked in for two nights with another couple and paid on arrival. Both rooms were filthy, carpets ill fitted, extension cables used to plug in appliances and a damp smell which was apparent throughout the hotel. We made the decision to cut our losses and instead stayed at the Commercial Inn just down the road. When we explained to the owner the reasons we couldn't stay she just took the keys with a shrug. We later learned from someone who used to work at the Aberdeen Arms that the good reviews are left by owners' family members and staff. Easily the worst hotel I have ever booked.

Booked in on the 25th June for 2 nights, travelled for 6 hours and got there about 6 o'clock the room was filthy carpets hadn't been cleaned for months , bathroom was a Covid hot spot , but the worst of all this was the bedding absolutely filthy ,dirty and stinking . you could obviously see it hadn't been changed for months. i wouldn't let a dog sleep in it ,the staff were bits of kids and the lady doing the cooking in the bar looked like she needed a good scrub , we had to try and find somewhere else to stay which was a pain . please do not go near this hovel . Booked this accommodation having not fully read all the reviews- what a mistake! On Entering the lobby the smell was absolutely disgusting, it smelled like raw sewerage. The carpets up to the room needed a good clean, the room smelled foisty even with windows open and it was freezing the bathroom was dirty and had mouldy sealant round the shower cubicle. We had two single beds pushed together and on inspection of the sheets would not have put a dog on there. We went with friends and there room was a triple and was even worse than ours. The linen was so bad that there was black mould and sweat marks on the pillows the sheets were disgusting and the mattresses sunk in the middle. The young chap actually said no one had checked the room in the last six months, he then said he would personally change the beds and tidy up. I did say sorry not good enough and demanded a refund, which he didn’t argue with and refunded us in full. We had traveled quite a distance to visit Balmoral and it’s a shame as the location for us was ideal. This property has bags of potential but needs a lot of money spending on it to bring up to a basic standard. In the meantime, would benefit from a deep clean, before it’s closed down by Environmental Health
