Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa Cobblers Cross, Cheshire

2nd time stay at the Portal. Rooms are great, championship golf course very good (even in the wet/muddy ground). Staff are great & had a super breakfast in the restaurant in the morning which is fulled with light & good views.

Was here for my wedding 20th April. The hotel is really nice all the staff were lovely and nothing was too much for them. The food was fantastic. Special mention to Dave who was amazing and very helpful, and special thanks to Rhys Tom for making the day go smoothly. Also thanks to Alison for helping with the bridesmaid dresses.

Only dropped in today to sort out some details ahead of a golf break here in the summer, but the pro-shop staff literally couldn't have been more helpful. Now thoroughly looking forward to our break here in July. Top marks.

Definitely my favourite place to stay I was delayed on route and ended up checking in super late, the staff couldn’t do enough for me and were really accommodating! Love this hotel but the staff are even better than the hotel!! Fab fab fab!!!

So let’s start this as the hotel is actually pretty good. The cheek and hidden charges however are not: Breakfast - normally charged at £24 per person, however if you want to “upgrade” from a full English breakfast to an eggs Benedict it’s £5 supplement. If you want to upgrade from a coffee to a cappuccino or a latte guess what.. it’s a £4 supplement. You know that just ruins the experience, apart from that the hotel is great but that one thing honestly is just so unbelievably cheeky and lets the hotel down.

What can I say? This Hotel was very lovely and from thevtime we walked into the hotel, we greeted by a receptionist called Joe I just knew that he was going to look after us he told us our room 206 was ready even though we were early a standard room. It was very clean.absolutely lovely We were also on a package so we asked Joe could we take our evening meal in the daytime that was no problem thank you to head chef Craig for loving meals as our treatments were booked for 5 o’clock and I just getting Over an illness so would be to much for me to have evening meal at night so we order room service which again the food was good I’d like to just mention you need to put on the room menu that there’s a charge as this was not made clear on the menu in the room thank you Also, I asked Joe could you do something for my husband like a cake but he said it was a bit short notice but he ask chef said he would do a birthday plate with small cakes and sweets which was very good of the name were Cosmic ,Jane ,Olga who sing to my husband was he was overwhelmed and surprised but made his day even more better thank you all We also had treatments done by Sam was very understanding and adapted my treatment so well for me as I could not lie on my stomach and she was very understand I also got upset through my treatment as I’ve been so well and I didn’t think I’d make coming for this break she was so understanding We will definitely be back thank you all Again Carol & Paul

We visited for our 20th wedding anniversary and couldn’t have had a better experience. From first being greeted by the receptionist all the staff were friendly and helpful!! We were given an upgrade to our room, which was clean and well equipped!! We had breakfast on two mornings, an evening meal and an afternoon tea, all the food was well prepared, presented well and tasted delicious. My husband had booked spa treatments for us, which we could not fault at all. The staff and therapists were extremely friendly and professional. One of the best massages I have ever had. All in all a fantastic 2 nights away.
