I remember when this was a charming and rather classy hotel. Sadly, it seems this is no longer the case, owing it seems to a lack of investment in the decor and furnishings. The restaurant is large and soulless. The chairs were stained which is unforgivable in a supposedly high end restaurant. I had duck which was spoiled by being served in lentils soaked in a far too heavy red wine sauce. My wife and friend fared better with pleasant sea bass. The rooms were large and comfortable, but again the furniture was tired. We couldn’t get the hot tap to produce anything, but tepid water. We didn’t get any sleep until gone 3am due to loud music and shouting and squealing. It wasn’t coming from the hotel so not their fault, but the management need to have words with the originators of this din, ( a local nightclub?) especially if it’s a regular occurrence. Guests, including ourselves, won’t return if they think they’ll be kept awake much of the night. Breakfast was lukewarm and what full English doesn’t include baked beans?!? The one saving grace was the staff. Without exception they were friendly, helpful and efficient.
