Location: The hotel is situated in a quiet village near Thirsk, providing easy access to the Yorkshire Dales and Moors. It offers a peaceful countryside atmosphere while being conveniently close to the A1, making it a preferred choice over chain hotels on the motorway.

This is a typical English country inn, with a restaurant and bar downstairs and guest rooms upstairs. It is run by a family. The sanitary conditions are good, but it is not easy to go upstairs and turn around because you need to carry your own luggage.

A friend and I booked a couple of rooms in Dec. Check in was at 4. The pub was in darkness until then. We were the only car in the car park.A guy opened the pub doors but ignored us. I went in and found someone in the kitchen. We were issued with keys and told where our rooms were. The staircase is small and narrow and difficult for older folks. No offer of help with bags.We were given a form to fill in for breakfast. This was in shifts. We opted for nine o clock. The room was very clean and tidy. My heating was adequate. The pub does early special meals ending at 7pm. We only spotted this in time. The food was good. At breakfast there was only one couple in the breakfast area and no one around. We selected a table set for two near the window. Eventually the manager appeared and said we couldn't sit there. I expected Lord Melbury to appear but once the other folk left we were alone and the table remained unoccupied. Breakfast arrived. Toast already buttered with one cafetiere of coffee. No offers of refills. . I was disappointed that the promised baked beans weren't on the plate. Infact they were there. Silly me. They were hiding under a small mushroom. I have never seen beans served in one teaspoonful measures. This must be where the term" bean counters" comes from. Following a similar experience the next day we just kind of left. Perhaps we were unlucky. I don't know anything about running a pub/ hotel nor the economics behind it. I do know that communication is cheap. Why didn't we complain? Who goes on holiday expecting to complain and risk unpleasantness?

Room was large, big bathtub. One corner of the room had moisture damage, and mold, perhaps from a roof leak or condensation. Pub was cosy. Food tasty. There is nothing else to do in Sandhutton. A critter scampering, and chewing in the attic above our room kept us awake most of the night.

Wonderful place to stay and would stay again. Only negative things were that the room was very warm (no instructions on how to turn the heating down) and there was a really bright green (escape route?) light above the door which was on through the night and so made it difficult to fall asleep. Both issues easily remedied. My companion had no issues with her room so would thoroughly recommend!

The food and drink was fantastic. The staff very helpful and their pub experience great! I wish we had more time allocated to experience this lovely part of the country. Also the cab service was fantastic and very flexible.
