This was the second stay at Eshott. First time we stayed in one of the adjoining properties which was very nice but spoilt by the sound of creaking floorboards and footsteps from the room above. So this time we opted to stay in the main hotel building. Our room was very spacious and clean with lovely views over the walled garden. The bathroom was spacious with both a bath and shower but although clean it could do with some basic maintenance. The lever on the bath mixer tap to be able to choose either bath or shower was jammed. The sliding door to the shower cabinet was very hard to open and close. Both problems just required a bit of WD40 to sort out! Our evening meal shared with friends was excellent. Three of us chose the Atlantic salmon which was the best we have ever tasted. My starter of asparagus was a bit disappointing as was my dessert of rhubarb in a sponge where the rhubarb was hard to find. So all in all an enjoyable dining experience it was very expensive for the dishes we had. Breakfast was generally poor. My wife’s scrambled egg was overcooked and the mushrooms undercooked. My one fried egg was small and under done although the bacon was ok. As with most hotels, the coffee was appalling! Why cafetière coffee invariably arrives like warm, full of grounds and with poor flavour is beyond me? Our second cafetière at least was hotter but very poor. Unfortunately at the time of our visit an upstairs room had managed to cause a severe water leak into the bar, meaning that this very cosy bar was closed. Drinks etc were served in the very pleasant adjacent sitting room instead which was fine. The warmth from the open fire was welcome on what was a very cold and wet day. So would we stay again? Well £300 for a one night dinner B&B does seem a lot and would certainly put us off having a third stay at Eshott.

Eshott Hall is beautiful and picturesque. The rooms are comfortable and spotless, and the bar and other rooms are extremely lovely to spend some time in. But what really makes Eshott Hall special are the folk who work there. We had such a warm welcome and were looked after so well during the weekend, that we'll definitely be back. Everyone was so friendly, and went above and beyond to make our stay special. If you've never visited and fancy a very relaxed home from home, I absolutely recommend staying here.

Quaint and peaceful hotel - lovely quiet and cosy room with enormous bathroom. Quiet, remote location. Excellent dinner menu. A perfect 'get away from it all' hotel and location.

Location was excellent, good facilities and staff were friendly and helpful However, at times staff numbers seemed to be low leading to longer waiting times during meal service Some staff seemed to know what they were doing. Some no. However, overall, a pleasant and relaxing week

The stables cottage was perfect for a family weekend, it’s next door to the main house and has a wisteria arch in the courtyard, with picnic tables to enjoy the sunshine. We had lots of space, comfy beds and big sofas in the living room, a jug of fresh milk in the fridge. Lots of space to read the papers, play board games and walk around the well kept gardens. Really friendly staff. Great location for the Northumberland coastal walks.

A memorable great visit with many positive elements. Our rooms were lovely and comfortable and well maintained. The views were also great. We ate on two of our four nights and had excellent meals with a reasonable choice. If we had stayed much longer a change in menu options would have been ideal. Breakfast with a good buffet selection and freshly cooked options were great. The staff were all attentive and friendly and definitely made the stay special. We will look to stay again if next in the area
