The Tower House B&B

Very well-kept and charming B&B located about 20 minutes from Kilkenny Castle. There is a river located behind the yard which provides a great opportunity to take a quiet walk. Mike, the owner, was very friendly and gregarious. The breakfast was excellent, too!

We received a lovely warm welcome from Michael when we arrived at the Tower House B+B. Centrally located and right beside the river, the Tower House was spotless and comfortable. The view overlooking the river is breathtaking. Breakfast the following morning was absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend a visit.

Pretty little Irish town. Met some lovely people here. Great base from where to explore Kilkenny (about a 1/2 hour drive) and Innistioge, a village about 20 mins away. This B&B is a charming place. Room is cosy & comfortable. Free parking within the premises. Jack the dog is a JOY. Check the in-room kettle first before use. Verdict: Recommended

This is a 6-room B&B managed by a couple. We only meet Micheal (The owner). He is friendly. It’s located in Thomastown - 25 minutes drive from Kilkenny City. The rooms are basic and simple. Rooms come with - Coffee/Tea - Set breakfast - Heater in room - Heated Bed - Hot shower, shampoo, bath gel, towel - Free car park - Daily Housekeeping - Outdoor sitting area - Free wifi - No lift - they got rooms on the ground and 1st floor (15-20 steps) Even tho it’s a small town but it’s a charming place to visit.

I stayed at The Tower House B&B for three nights in June 2022 and hope to return for a longer visit on my next trip to Ireland. The proprietors Trisha and Michael are very welcoming hosts who give you space and are always happy to answer questions and offer suggestions. They both helped arrange transportation for me and oriented me to Thomastown which is itself a very special, friendly place. The room I stayed in (the last room on the second story) was spotlessly clean and cozy and the bed very comfortable. There is a small table and chair in front of the room and the view of the River Nore and town from there is delightful. I enjoyed sitting out there in the morning with a cup of tea (there is a kettle, tea and some sweets in the room) before breakfast. I'd never had a full Irish breakfast before; The Tower House was the perfect place to avail myself of this bountiful traditional meal. The quality of the products Trish and Michael use are first rate and every breakfast I had at The Tower House was delicious. Thank you, Trisha and Michael, for a wonderful stay. This B&B overlooks the River Nore, via its sunny courtyard enhanced by Trish's fantastic flowering plants. The rooms are clean and comfortable, in the modern extension, but Michael, the very genial host, will happily show you the original Tower rooms. But most notable: the breakfast! A fantastic choice of delicious dishes prepared by Trish. The Hennessys are a lovely couple and this is a great place in a delightful little town.

The rooms were clean and a decent sized bathroom with wall size hazed window onto the courtyard made it feel a little exposed (but thats the prude in me perhaps) That aside, I didn't like that fact that the rooms open directly out on to an outdoor balcony (courtyard). It was freezing the night we stayed - evening with the heating on - there was a torrid draft under the door. The breakfast room was also cold (forgiveable perhaps in COVID times) but frankly it and the carpet felt unkempt and unclean. (The sugar dish lid was also covered in greasy finger prints. The breakfast, (served by hands covered in coal or wood dirt by the way) offering is described in the brochure as "glorious" - it was very basic, with two miserable and I mean tiny slices of toast. As Irish brekkies go in B& Bs - this was the far short of the norm especially given the price of the room in bloody mid January - it was almost 130 euro. Our host was a friendly enough gentlemen but didn't seem to be aware of masking requirements indoors. Some might say that is petty, but that says a lot to me. Charm is often code for not so great and that is the case here. Will I be back - simply - NO. There are many far better B& Bs far more deserving of the business. I fail to see how this place gets such glowing reviews.

We stayed here last night it was a super venue lovely location Trisha and John were super hosts. Beautiful breakfast and of course like all irish family run businesses we met lovely friendly people there well done we will be back for sure and would highly recommend a visit. Chris and Antoinette
