We visited in late January, 2024. We were taken aback by the steep drive up, but it was well worth it. Our room was lovely and the owner and staff were extremely accommodating as we had goodies that needed freezing. There are only a few rooms so it is quite private (we only had one other guest each night). Our initial plan was to spend three nights but we extended it one day.

We stayed in this hilltop lodge for 4 nights and enjoyed the peace and tranquillity. We were welcomed by the temporary hosts, Lorna and Tim who were professional and friendly. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished but our sliding doors did not look out on the spectacular view. Try to get one of the other 2 rooms on the ground floor for the better views. We enjoyed the hot tub at the end of long active days. Our package did not include breakfast but we had the option of paying for this on a daily basis for $30 per person. As we had early activities planned we opted to have breakfast in one of the coffee shops in Nelson with Victus on Bridge Street being our favourite. Downside to this property is that it is quite a trek into town so not that convenient if you want to go out for dinner. Otherwise a great place to stay for a couple of nights.

Parautane Lodge is a delightful B & B perched high above Nelson. The Harris room in which we stayed was well proportioned and had a modern bathroom. Other rooms may have better views, but they are smaller. The breakfast room and choices were excellent and the staff couldn't be more friendly.

The view from our room and the terrace were absolutely spectacular. And so was the road up to the lodge. Luckily nobody crossed our way. Bringing our whole luggage down the stairs (and when leaving up again) was also not convenient. We definitively did not accept the offer of the daughter of our hosts - this would have been too much for her. But thanks for the offer. The breakfast was also very good and the recommendations of Alan with respect to eating in Nelson as well. Thanks for hosting us, we will keep you in good memory.

The place is nothing but amazing . From the start of an interesting drive up , the views are stunning and when you get up to the lodge , the service provided is remarkable. Excellent place to relax with stunning views and outdoor hidden spa. The lodge is close to all amenities as well. The cooked breakfast is wonderful and the rooms are great !

Beautiful location, great views of nelson and the bay/able tasman. Nicely fitted out and great bed. Friendly owners. Probably only negative is the spa pool was not that clean and we couldn’t enjoy having a soak in the evening. Nice having a wine on the deck and watching the sun set

We stayed for 2 nights at Parautane Lodge, and from the moment you step out onto the spacious deck you will be swept away by the breath taking scenery. The property is located in the hillside over looking the Tasman Bay and the mountains of the Arthur Ranges. There are four luxury mini suites. We stayed in the Pukeko suite which is tastefully decorated and clean with a modern en-suite bathroom. There are French doors that open directly onto the deck. This place and location has so much to offer but sadly so many things let it down on our visit. Firstly there was no one to greet as on arrival and we were entrusted to enter the property and settle ourselves in. We didn't meet the owner until the next morning. There is a breakfast menu on the website but unless you had done your due diligence you wouldn't know. Breakfast was enjoyable but little things were missing off each meal and we felt awkward asking for them. The property is showing cracks with attention to minor maintenance missing. Decking boards bowed and decking lights hanging out of there sockets. The painting in our room remained on the floor our entire stay. One highlight was the outdoor spa which is nestled into the hill which is private from the lodge and has spectacular views of the sunset while enjoying a glass or two. The property is about 10 mins from Nelson city which wasn't an issue as we enjoyed the seclusion and privacy that this lodge offers. Alan the owner is a friendly host who gave us some great insight to places to visit in the surrounding areas, which we took up. We felt like we were a distraction and not a welcoming guest to share this fantastic property and location.
