I selected this property when I recently needed a place to ”quarantine” for two weeks after arriving in NC from abroad. I was looking for affordable, clean accommodation with some basic cooking facilities and good internet speed, and that is exactly what the property provided. Sure, it's not the Hilton or the Washington Duke, but it doesn't claim to be. The main thing is they are trying. It is an older property and the rooms could probably benefit from some freshening up and modernisation, but I believe that this kind of work is ongoing. The first room I was given did smell very strongly of smoke from the previous guest, but Cynthia on the front desk was very helpful about moving me to a different room. I did notice that the second room had a brand new refrigerator in it and the A/C system was more modern. Over the duration of my stay I saw maintenance men bringing new appliances and such into other rooms, so it's obvious that improvements are in process. Due to COVID, the grab-and-go breakfast is currently suspended, and housekeeping only do a cleaning every two weeks, but clean towels and linens are available from reception on request. It's definitely worth paying for the upgraded fast WiFi if you need to do anything other than light emailing. One thing I would suggest to the hotel would be sheer curtains in the windows in addition to the blackout curtains. If you open the blackout curtains, everyone passing the window can see into the room, which makes you feel a bit like a goldfish in a tank! But you don't want to sit in the dark all the time, so sheers would really make spending time in the room during the day more pleasant. All in all, this was a perfect premises for what I needed. Would I recommend it for a romantic break? No. But if you aren't looking for luxury accommodation and just need an affordable, comfortable place to stay, that's exactly what it is.
