This is a remarkable hotel within steps of the Royal Troon Golf Course in Troon, Scotland. Before being converted to a hotel, this magnificent mansion was within the family of famed whiskey distiller, Johnny Walker. The rooms are comfortable and quaint, the dining areas are well laid out, and the bars and gathering areas are beautifully appointed and staffed. Our large family gathering of 16 people was treated like royalty and we can't thank the staff enough. There was Margaret in the dining room, Meagan in the bar and Christine at the desk and other locations. Indeed, there were many staffers who were at our beck and call and all were superbly trained to make our one-week stay as memorable as possible. But one person in particular made the entire week happen and fall into place like a smooth, well-oiled machine. Samantha McCahill. She took charge of our Clan Wallace gathering eight months prior to our visit and handled each member of the family as though they were her own. She is a super star who more than deserves the attention I'm giving her here. The Piersland is lucky to have her.
