Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia National Park

Nice hotel in the middle of Sequoia National Park.

The location is fabules, but our room 6215 at Thunderbird was the only one with less windows and view. We did a lot of struggle to find the place to check-in, but got good help when we finally understood. A little sign, or many signs on the Thunderbird would be a help for severel costumers. My feeling was that your company prefure big companys, not singel tourist.

We arrived just before 8pm, the receptions wasn't friendly at all. She checked us in and gave us the paperwork without any explanation as to what was what. We asked for the restaurant and stated they closed in 20 min. When we asked for a recommendation she stated no to eat there. We went to the bar to order. 1 pizza, a salad, a sandwich, 1 beer, and a plastic cup of wine $90. The room wasn't that great for the amount that they charge. Overpriced for sure. The housekeeping staff very unfriendly and look miserable. The only positive experience we had was with the young lady Alexandra who is another receptionist who we talked to the next morning. Very friendly and cheerful, she made up for the supervisor on duty the night before.

Beautiful area and nice room. But the heater/air conditioning unit fan never shut off the entire time. Very annoying. The bathroom fan was extremely noisy and turned on automatically with the light. The room needed some maintenance. The staff, food, service was very nice.

We went during the mid July period when temperatures ran around 100 degrees. Given the absence of AC, it was too hot especially at night. We got our hiking and sightseeing in during the 2 days we were there (some things were still closed due to the pandemic) but we left a day early to get to a place that had AC. Other than that, no complaints. Going in, We weren’t expecting the Bellagio but even then, it’s A little pricey for what you get. Next time, we plan to stay outside the park and travel into Kings to see that side.

The room was very spacious and clean and comfortable. Shower was small because shower head was on wrong wall and no curved shower curtain. Toilet paper was very thin. Restaurant if you didn’t have reservations for dinner it was over a 2-hour wait. Service was very slow. Food was good. Desk clerk very friendly checking in and out.

Location is great! We previously stayed in Visalia, but the amount of driving limited what we could do. Wuksachi is 20 minutes away from the giant forest, so we could stay in the park well after sunset. We came at the first re-opening of the season. The food was a mixed bag. Some of it was great, and unbeatable in such a remote place. But for the cost, I think sometimes it was pretty unpalatable. I would particularly like to draw attention to the breakfast pastries, which were excellent on the first day, but VERY bland and soggy on the second day. The room was quiet, and generally clean. We did notice the ceiling fan was pretty dusty, but we didn’t use it much given the temperature. Where it mattered (bathroom, bed, tables), surfaces were clean and ready. Overall, I would recommend Wuksachi for the location and reasonable accommodations, with the caveat that there is room for improvement.
