Caledonian Hotel 'a Bespoke Hotel’

Walls are paper thin. Did not do breakfast as I thought it was too expensive. Location, staff were good. My booking was a last minute decision so I was probably lucky to get a room.

The location was good, very close to the port and maine street. However, the hotel itself is very old and is in desperate need of a renovation. Facilities and rooms were very very old, and it almost felt like a hospital rather than a hotel! Of course, not as clean as a hospital would be. Breakfast was terrible as well and all in all this was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed. Lastly, wifi wasn't working anywhere in the hotel, I called reception to ask if there's anything that can be done and I was advised they'll look into it and call me back. As expected no one ever called me back. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

Wondered what to expect when I read some reviews. Pleasantly surprised when we got there. Staff were lovely and all looking to make our experience the best. Room had been refurbished recently. They had a coffee shop for afternoons and restaurant in the evening. Food was good too.

What a great experience hotel was lovely staff very friendly and helpful. We ate there two nights of our stay and the food was excellent as was the price. Would definitely recommend staying there

The room was small , the kettle was filthy and the tray with the tea and coffee was the same , had to wash before I I used it , room looked like it hadn’t been hoovered in a while , dust all around edges of room , bin in bedroom and bathroom rusty and not very clean , no shelf in shower to put anything on , nowhere to hang your towel for easy access when getting out of shower unless you want to walk across bathroom for it , no power in shower to get shampoo out of your hair. Had dinner in restaurant didn’t it eat it as it was awful , they gave a very small discount for that . Had stayed in a Five star Hotel previous 2 evenings, and it was not as expensive as this hotel , so I would stay very far away from this hotel , it is very shabby and not the cleanest .

Had issues booking initially. Got an email saying booking was going to be cancelled in January. Managed to rebook in February. Got an email confirmation saying would be charged two days prior to stay. All this went ahead without any fuss. Was then charged full price for initial reservation two days after our stay. So was charged twice. Queried this and was told initial reservation was valid so wouldn’t be getting a refund. Was also falsely told that we had been advised that this was the case on arrival. We hadn’t been told this at all. The correspondence afterwards was so unhelpful, took several days to initially respond. So ended up paying nearly £500 for one night in a bang average hotel with unhelpful staff. On top of that, an ok breakfast is over an above the advertised rate at £15 a head. Would avoid here at all costs and book elsewhere. Absolutely terrible.
