We have visited periodically for the last 10 years and always loved the ambience and the quality of the food and service but not this time. It was over the Easter weekend but the menu was limited. The whitebait was more like small sardines than the expected thin crispy variety. The BLT was OK but a bit meagre with a small helping of fries. The fish finger sandwich was good with nice batter, but the roast beef sandwich used rather tough meat and not a pleasant experience. Service was also “OK” but not friendly and there was not the usual enquiry about the quality of the meals. The toilet was dark (there was no light, a small window and I could not find a light-switch) and the paper towel bin was full and overflowing on to the floor despite us arriving early for lunch. I will wait a few months before trying again, it may been just the time of year?

Excellent food, service and ambience. The team could not have been more helpful, friendly and polite. The food was served efficiently, home cooked and of superb quality. An excellent establishment, highly recommended

It was okay food overall i had sausage and beans and chip and my mum had beef but it was cooked wrong and was hard to cut into. The time waiting for food was about 35mins ish way to long , they did apologise for inconvenience but it was a very long time.

I phoned ahead but they had no recollection, I asked for gluten and dairy free options. On arriving they eventually told me I could have only steak or chicken, no starter at all and no dessert. I chose chicken which came plain with fries and rocket leaves, no sauce or gravy, no vegetables, very boring, no discount! My husband ordered sausage and mash but the mash was full of horseradish, he could not finish it and sadly ended up vomiting in the night. There were no fizzy drinks available that night as the gas was not working! In this day and age extremely poor and disappointed.

What every inn-with-rooms should be like. Starting from a friendly welcome, and being shown to our room (only downside - due to the geography of the place, the rooms are accessed by a well-lit outside staircase). Room 4 is spacious, with a very king-size bed and (this is where most hotels can take a lesson) two comfortable chairs to relax in. A modern bathroom with an excellent shower. Downstairs, there's a very pleasant bar, good range of beers, wines, and spirits, and a log fire. The bar is used by locals and guests alike, with no discrimination. The food can be served either in the bar area or in a slightly-separate dining area. Unpretentious (meant in the nicest possible way) tasty food and great breakfasts. Must mention that the whole place is extremely dog-friendly, with your canine companion welcome anywhere in the bar and at breakfast, with treats on hand.

We had booked through *********** a king room but when we got confirmation we were in a double room I telephoned the hotel to be told that our room was a king as it had a king size bed in it. The room (5) was not very big and lacked surfaces to put any of our bits and pieces. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had one shelf to put our toiletries on, a very small basin and a shower that if you were above 15 stone you might struggle to get in. We had a meal on the night we arrived and the food was good. The lady who served us was ok but not particularly friendly. One server, a young lady came across much better. We were looking forward to the breakfast but again we were disappointed. The cold selection was cornflakes, rice crispies or weetabix, orange juice or apple juice and a fruit bowl. There was no yogurt, no croissants and no fruit salad. The waitress, who seemed a bit stressed, when asked by another customer said they had run out of yogurt. We were asked if we wanted white or brown toast and we chose brown but another customer who was being served after us asked for brown toast and were told they had run out of brown. The cooked breakfast was fine but nothing special. When we came to pay our bill I asked for a paper receipt which when I got it I didn’t look at it, imagine my surprise when I did look and found it was for another couple that had stayed two nights. In case anyone thinks I am in the habit of dissing hotels I can assure I am not, almost all my reviews are positive. Going from other reviews we were maybe unlucky but I certainly can’t recommend the hotel based on our visit.

We really enjoyed our time at the Wheatsheaf. Everything was just right, from the friendliness & service of the staff, the bedrooms, cleanliness and the pub itself being in a very nice setting. We thought the food was of a very high standard (we had the Sunday roast which was fab). We were originally booked in for one night, but asked if we could stay an extra night, so that says it all really.

The Wheatsheaf Inn is fabulous, it’s a credit to its manager and all its staff, and is a truly fantastic dog friendly pub in a great location with great food and wonderful accommodation. We stayed for 3 nights in room 5 with our dog, the room was very tastefully styled, beautifully clean and serviced each day, which was lovely. The help yourself milk and water in the communal fridge was a lovely touch. Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious with an excellent choice of hot and cold. The evening menu was a delight, also with excellent choices, everything we chose was cooked to perfection and served by super friendly staff. Highly recommended and yes, it goes without saying, we can’t wait to visits again.
