CHEERMAY Hotel (Urumqi Youhao Road Xinjiang Museum)

The hotel is situated next to Mei Mei mall and opposite of the museum. The museum is a must visit especially the exhibits on dry corpses. It is a new hotel so there isn’t anything to complain about except there is a smell of smoke in the room. But managed to get a change of room. The guest rooms are located on the 2nd and 6th floor only. The 3,4 & 5 floors are not hotel guest rooms.

The hotel is fairly well located due to ease of access to mei mei shopping mall (1 & 2) and museum. But, that's about it. Service level seems still work in progress. We stayed for 4 nights and were perplexed that our room key card did not work when we returned for the first and second night. When we went to the counter to sort out our card access issue the second night, we were then informed by the staff that the card require daily access update at the counter. This was not informed to us during check in and no hotel we've stayed at before function this way. After I've feedback to the staff, they process the card to function and work till I check out 2 days later. (Not sure why they did not set it to work for my entire stay duration in the first place like all other hotels) The daily clearing is not up to standard - the room were still dusty and hair in the bath tub was still present. The tour company recommended by the hotel (we book a day trip to tian chi) was of low quality and the tour guide will push you to purchase more tour experience unrelated to tian chi- please beware.

The hotel is conveniently located next a shopping mall, it's a good standard business hotel. Breakfast is Chinese style and seems to share with guests from a spa facility. The bed is comfortable and staff are helpful towards non-mandarin speaker.

Stayed here as part of a two day trip in Urumqi. When I first got the room it smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke. Was told by the staff that I could only come back later to try for a different room. When I got back, I still received a room that smelled of cigarette smoke. While the photos show a window, it just a fake one, leading to what looks like a fire escape. Only complaint regarding the window was that it lead to poor ventilation. So my room smelt of cigarette smoke for days.
