The Sun Hotel

The place needs some TLC first thing we noticed cigarette box is hanging off wall ( first impressions) It just needs some love and care the sauce bottles on the table is not a good look This hotel is in such a cracking position but reviews arnt great . It must be said the lads are good .

On our way back to Tynemouth we called in for the first time and what a delight it was, the Sunday lunch looked and tasted delicious and as a starter the tomato and red pepper soup was ultra tasty. What was also impressive was the service, exceptionally friendly and welcoming, will definitely be back again

The hotel has seen better days. Most of them a long long time ago. The room was minuscule and stank of pee. We asked for an air freshener for the room because of the smell but instead they just had someone go up and spray some around. Felt dirty in the morning after not being able to sleep properly because we couldn’t get comfy on the lumpy bed. We didn’t stay the following night which we had booked and paid for as we couldn’t face the smell or the bed again. We almost decided to cut our trip short as we felt that bad but instead deciddd to pay for another hotel a little distance away which is like brand new and was the same price. Oh, but the food in the bar was ok.

We're shown to room 11 but in the bathroom the ceiling fan cover was on the floor with wires hanging out , were given another room " best room "" they said , but toilet was dirty and hairs in bed !!!!! Reported this and was told someone would come up to the room , but after 20 minutes as no one arrived we checked out expressing our dissatisfaction they said they knew about the ceiling fan but thought the handy man had fixed it !!!!! I said surely they should have checked this as part of good customer service , a skill clearly lacking is this hotel with a careless attitude

Me & my family stayed here for New Year’s Eve (2023/24) We stayed in room 6 and our experience was awful, it reminded us of “Faulty Towers/Horror Movie” where the staff was concerned but our main problem was the room. On entering the room the smell was awful ( smelt like a musky old museum) We had 3 single beds and the middle bed’s base was snapped so you were sleeping on a slant and all 3 mattresses felt like you were sleeping on a sack of potatoes. Don’t think the beds have been changed since the 70’s. The ceiling was full of stains, dust and cobwebs (photos attached) There are birds living in the air vent in bathroom(you can hear them scratching and tweeting) and the shower cubicle was full of debris (which we did not use). The kettle and mugs weren’t fit for human consumption. Don’t know what the cleaners are doing in this hotel but they’re certainly not cleaning the rooms. Our experience of this hotel was awful and unacceptable and will not be returning (I’ve sent hotel an email but had no response) My advice to anyone thinking about booking here would be AVOID and look for somewhere else. *Such a shame as it’s in a good location*

Stopped at the sun loades of time , this time got upgrade to honeymoon suite or the secret room . It was a great room massive bed free standing bath in bedroom, friendly staff , good northumbrian breakfast, good bar with sky for the newcastle match, will be back .

Stayed here as part of a golf trip with friends. Great for watching the football (lots of TVs), staff friendly, bar food was very good, nice breakfast, rooms were nice. Would recommend and would stay again.

This hotel is a great place to stay, the staff are friendly and gave good advice for the local golf course. The breakfast was fantastic. Would highly recommend. The room we stayed in was pleasant with a nice view

2 night getaway in what we thought would be a fairly stress free relaxing hotel. Last night had to tolerate really appalling behaviour of a large group of men who kept us up till 2am. The hotel is or manned at night and so we attempted to ask the other guests in the next room along to possibly give us a chance to sleep before our long journey home. To which one aggressive **** went for my partner but we managed to get him back in the room and so our door was punched instead. Needless to say we had about 4 hours sleep. Staff not particularly interested and not a thing said by anyone so I assume this is the norm and you put up with it.
