Finally decided to stay here after spotting a deal on Luxury Escapes months ago, and having just returned home yesterday, I can confidently say I'm relieved to be back. This place is grossly overrated. Yes, it's old, and they've done a decent job keeping the rooms somewhat modern, but the real disappointment lies with the staff. It's as if smiling would have caused them physical pain during my entire 3-day stay. Every request felt like a burden to them, and I constantly felt like an annoyance just by existing there. The most distasteful part of the experience was the blatant attitude of "you booked a Luxury Escapes deal, so expect subpar service." Because I didn't pay full price, I was relegated to the smallest room with a view of bushes obscuring the window. The staff's demeanor towards my family and me screamed, "You paid the discounted rate, so you get discounted treatment." The bar setup in the main lounge is a joke. Depending on who serves you, you might be told to walk for three minutes to another bar to get your drink and bring it back because the staff couldn't be bothered to make it. Alternatively, if you're lucky, the one competent female staff member might just make the drink for you. I witnessed this absurdity multiple times: the guy behind the bar would send someone away, and as they trudged off to find this second bar, the female staff member would be preparing drinks for other guests right there. The morning breakfast buffet was abysmal, arguably the worst I've encountered. You're allowed only one "complementary" mocha, hot chocolate, or various other hot drinks – a stark contrast to the standard inclusivity at other hotel buffets. The "bacon" was nothing more than warmed-up ham, tasting terrible, though I'll concede that taste is subjective. The so-called "High-Speed Wi-Fi" was laughably slow. They should just admit, "We have Wi-Fi available," and leave it at that. I've heard this is where celebrities stay, but after my experience, I highly doubt that. This place rides on the coattails of its long-gone glory days, but once you stay there, you quickly realize it's all talk and no substance. I've stayed there now, but I won't be returning. It simply does not live up to the hype.
