We spent seven nights in early November 2024 at Chumbi Mountain Retreat and had a fantastic experience. We were looking for a place to relax and recharge our batteries, and the resort lived up to our expectations as it met our main requirements of beautiful views of the Himalayas, cleanliness, homestyle meals and peace and quiet. The videos of the property on YouTube do not do justice and we found the resort to be more beautiful in reality. We would love to visit again. Awesome view: If you are looking for a resort with a great mountain view, you must try this one. From the rooms facing the mountains, you get a very close view of the snow-covered peaks of the Kanchenjunga range, so close that you feel you can walk up the mountains in a couple of hours. Beautiful and clean property: The property has great ambience, it is surrounded by mountains, from the reception multiple wings branch out in different directions and levels which we enjoyed exploring, it is well maintained and decorated well with local art and craft, there are paintings and interesting vintage photographs all across the property. Lots of greenery in and around the property, it has spa, meditation centre, gym, activity room, bar and plenty of space to take leisurely walks. Rooms: Rooms are big and clean, furnished with double bed, writing table and chair, arm chair, heater and pantry. Bathrooms are very spacious with hot water on tap 24x7. Good service: The service was prompt, attentive and efficient. Hospitable and cooperative staff: The staff is untouched by the corporate and commercial culture, their hospitality seemed genuine and they were courteous and helpful, throughout our stay we were well looked after. Tasty food: We had our meals mostly at the in-house restaurant, went for a la carte wherein we chose to have home-style meals due to dietary restrictions. You must try the homestyle chicken and dishes prepared with the vegetables grown on the property farm, like bitter balls, mustard green, squash (ishkush) and butter beans. Must try the gulab jamuns. Getting around: No autos or taxis, only private cars, that can be hired from the resort travel desk. About Rs.4,000 for a day of sightseeing, Rs.6,000 for resort to Bagdogra airport. Special thanks to the following staff who made our stay very pleasant: At the front desk, the manager, Mr Husain, and Neera were friendly, cooperative and most helpful when we needed a room with a better view. At the restaurant, the manager, Mr Ashish, and his team were warm, courteous and forthcoming, and accommodating of our requests for homestyle and local food. The local homestyle dishes prepared by Chef Rana were tasty and helped us follow our dietary restrictions well. Chewang and Santi, who served us, were very attentive to our needs and served us with a genuine smile! And all these people made sure they interacted not only with us but also with the rest of the guests in the restaurant and made them feel right at home. Kesang
