Arrived earlier than expected but went to reception to ask if accommodation was ready only to be told by âgrumpy old grannyâ .. â2pm if club or 4pm if basic!â . Fair enough so decided to âexploreâ for 30 minutes. Looked in the lounge to be met by 2 half done jigsaw puzzles and an old lady asleep. Fancied a nibble so went to the vending machine which contained one Mars bar and 2 Dairy Milk bars which looked like they may have been there for several years. Yay itâs 2pm so back to reception to collect keys .. quick process .. give them your surname and they hand you an envelope ⌠no explanation as to where your accommodation actually is, fortunately itâs such a small camp that we found it within 2 minutes. We paid extra for club class - chalet tired and dated but bed made up, free bottle of wine waiting plus vouchers for a free newspaper each morning .. quite a novelty as havenât bought a newspaper this century. Bag containing tea, coffee, milk and sugar with a note that was to last us 3 days and if we wanted more weâd have to pay ÂŁ1 for another bag ⌠no danger of that as was possibly the worst tasting tea and coffee ever! Hungry so looking forward to dinner at 5pm. Itâs like being back at school as you queue up to get your cutlery and tray and then help yourself. I had chilli (think they forgot to add any spice) and hubby had the cod which was very overcooked. Dessert was gateau or tinned peaches and cream which really you canât go wrong with. Bad design as you have to walk through the queue to get your hot drinks which is an accident waiting to happen. Decided to go to the games room afterwards⌠2 dart boards, 2 table tennis tables and 2 snooker tables plus a completely empty vending machine. Then itâs evening entertainment - bar prices reasonable and each evening bingo, disco and a live act. Live acts were ok and on the last evening Badness (a Madness tribute act) were fantastic. Advised before we booked that swimming pool was out of order, we donât swim so not an issue, but why wasnât it sorted before start of season? Orange juice was unavailable at breakfast .. why? Vending machines empty ⌠how difficult to fill them when you know you have several hundred guests arriving? Crazy golf .. impossible to play because grass hasnât been cut. Wondering if theyâre planning to close camp down as looks like thereâs been zero investment for decades. Finally if youâre under 75 youâll be in the minority ⌠youâll never see so many walking sticks and mobility scooters in such a small area ⌠we named it The Coffins Dodgers Club and the lounge Godâs Waiting Room!
