Lovely hotel and nice breakfast

Nice clean hotel,friendly staff.slightly over priced in my opinion though.

The location, hotel, food and leisure facilities are absolutely fantastic. The staff are very friendly but there were numerous delays in regards service and waiting to give food and drink orders and then waiting for those drinks and food.

Our room at Knockranny House was fine and comfortable. The front desk was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good, and the service was nice and prompt. We did not use any of the spa services. Knockranny has ample parking and is close enough to Westport that if you want to walk into town and avoid any parking problems (and a series of confusing roundabouts), it should only take you about 15 minutes to get to where you want to go. Despite these points, dinner service at the Knockranny's restaurant did not meet our expectations based on our dining experiences in the States and in Ireland. We were looking forward to eating dinner at the Knockranny's restaurant in order to sample the cuisine of their multiple award-winning chef. There was a certain level of confusion with the wait staff as to who was going to take care of us. We were offered the menu twice (the second time by a different server after we placed our order for starters with our first server and after we had our amuse bouche). We each had the mussels appetizer but were not offered anything in which to place the empty shells, which led to an awkward experience of searching for the uneaten ones among the eaten ones in our bowl. We had brought cocktails and wine with us from the bar and lounge across the hall to our dinner table. The table's wine glasses were not cleared as is typical when guests sit down with drinks in hand. My wife ordered sea bass. Unfortunately, the fish and the veg on the plate were both overdone. I ordered the lamb, which was good and properly prepared. Service during our dinner was almost non-existent after the food was brought out. It was even difficult to get the attention of someone to order another drink. Our experience did not live up to the expectation of a fine-dining restaurant at this level.

We attended a wedding at Knockranny house hotel, everything went perfectly, all the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Claire and Ben, wedding coordinators. The rooms were spacious and clean. I can’t fault this hotel, we will definitely return.

We are local just 20km from town. Where do I start we booked into the restaurant last Saturday. What a disappointed we were in for. The service is embarrassing at times we were told there was a wedding on and that the kicthen was under pressure. And normally the restaurant would be closed. What?? The beautiful town of Westport deserves better. The food was the worst part of the night shocking and totally unacceptable we sent back both of our dinners because they tasted sour like it was out of date. You would just know it wasn’t right. My husband got over cooked the chicken was slimy and pink covered is sause . We sent back our food and We were the told the head chef cooked over dishes and there was nothing wrong with them what a joke vegetables were on the plate it was two slices potatoes two pieces of spring onions That were socked in butter. Everything is cooked in oil and butter how has knockranny gotten so bad. I just want to ask the head chef we’re is the love the passion creativity this man should be showing the door he’s clearly lost his soul. Avoid the food at all cost lovely hotel otherwise

Having checked that vegan options were available I booked a table for a wedding anniversary celebration. There was no vegan option- the dish had to be modified to exclude the curry sauce in the vegetarian choice. My daughter ordered buttermilk chicken which arrived burnt, dry and on an oily plate. My husband had a ¼ of sea bass, and I had cauliflower, broccoli and 9 chickpeas, served with a strange tasting sauce. The broccoli and cauliflower were not al dente- they were grossly undercooked. We were not offered sides so we assumed that standard vegetables were included. They were not. I couldn't attract a waiter to remedy this. I was served sorbet thanks to the assistance of a very kindly waitress but it was plated with dairy cream. The tea and coffee were of excellent quality. Had the meal been up to even minimal standards I would have found the bill satisfactory but for such a dire dining experience, it was ludicrously overpriced. I definitely won't be returning or recommending La Fougere evening dining.
