Arrived at The Village Inn yesterday 12/6/2023 to find it closed down due to new owners . We had no email or phone call to tell us this . So after a 5 hour drive from Staffordshire we find are self’s with no where to stay 😢if it was not for a young lad (didn’t get his name) telling us there was a chalet park near by we would off been sleeping in the car . We found this very stressful & upsetting .you would of thought they would off had the decency’s to let us know 😡 Julie & Ian

We waited a long time to be seen despite asking twice for some service. There was no one else needing to be seen. I could see someone apparently on duty. The receptionist stormed out and stated I had attitude and she didn't want myself, my husband and a third guest in the hotel. I made an attempt to placate the situation but she yelled get out. Astounding reaction! You probably may want to consider removing this establishment from your listings. Many reviews make shocking reading.

Wish I could have given no rating at all as it was worse than terrible. We arrived on the Friday 24th of June at 6pm we politely asked for our key as we had booked a room, she said a name and a price it was wrong as we booked 2 nights not just 1, she then said she would sort with the landlord and we then went and sat at the bar for a drink whilst waiting we was having a drink and also having a laugh and joke with the locals whilst STILL waiting for the key. At 7:30 still no key so we ordered some food which we ate which was no where near worth the money as the portions were small enough for a child and food was very dry. Then just after 8pm we asked for the key again, to which I was asked “have you paid yet as you need to pay before you get the key” which I then did. Then after this she came over with the key and took us to our room which to when we got there it wasn’t what we had payed for as we was told that we had got a sea view room however she took us to a back room. She then went down to get the landlady, the landlady came up the stairs shouting at us asking “what our problem was” we replied with “that’s not the room we was told, and kept us waiting for a room we didn’t even book” we then said “This isn’t acceptable as we was told it was sea view when we booked.” She then replied with “you should have paid when you came in at 6pm so that room you had is no longer available” we then said “no problem we will have our money back and go and stay with our son in appledore” The land lady then started SINGING!! “HAHA I’ve got your money , YOU Ain’t having it back” whilst going down the stairs. I waited for a while for the land lady then asked someone where she was to them to tell us they didn’t know where she was in the pub to which our suprise the Landlady was sat outside drinking. So I went out and confronted her again to get my money back to be told “you are not having your money back” with all of that one of the people she was drinking with stood up and violently grabbed me by both arms to which I have a picc line in my right arm due to having chemo therapy as I am having trea**ent for pancreatic cancer. We had come away to have some time away from Reality and just to have a good time , when my wife then came to help as she was stopping me from getting hurt, the gentle man was insistent that I left the premises and all of a sudden a whole gang of people stood up yelling abuse at us which then left us feel very intimidated and after a bit of a shouting match my wife went down and spoke to her daughter on the phone who then advised her to call the police which my wife then did. Realising that I could have been hurt I left also to go make sure my wife was okay. It has now been logged with the local police as common assault. SAFE TO SAY WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!!! AWFUL EXPERIENCE DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Barry and Lesley, the owners of this dire establishment are possibly the rudest people in the hospitality business that I have ever come across. Wife asked for a hair drier. No allowed due to possible Covid transmission. Heating not on in room despite it being a wet day and our clothes were damp. Breakfast started at 9. At 8:57 my wife knocked on the kitchen door to ask for some milk. Lesley told her “we generally start about 8”. No way that we could have milk 3 minutes early. I was presented with the smallest cooked breakfast that I have ever seen. This made a child’s portion look generous. This diabolical experience cost £90. Avoid The Village Inn like the plague.

Excellent location. Had a question about breakfast which was simply and professionally answered by a lovely member of staff. We booked via las**inute.com, which showed a checkin time until 11pm. My wife and I looked forward to our stay for my wife’s birthday. Unfortunately there was a mis-communication. We arrived in the evening and was told that we had arrived too late, and that our room was no longer available, and that there was nothing to be done. We were given a refund by las**inute.com. At any rate, we would have liked to have stayed here, so cannot give a full review. In hindsight we should have confirmed with the inn the latest checkin time was in fact what was listed. I hope that the checkin time is now consistent with the inn’s and online vendors, so this issue does not happen to others.

We were walking the Southwest Coast Path and stayed in many places in Somerset and North Devon. The Village Inn was by far the worst. The room was dirty, with dirty sheets. The TV and Wifi were broken. The breakfast was lousy, with undrinkable juice and coffee, slow service and a choice of one cereal (cornflakes). We paid the same price for other places that were far better. Avoid this dump!

We arrived at the property which we booked back in June and confirmed the week before arrival, to a sign on the door stating "The Village Inn, Sorry we are closed, 20th August, due to unforeseen circumstances", we had received no phone call, email or notification on *********** to let us know. So a 3 hour journey for a much needed long weekend away was a total waste of time. We were met by 2 women who had no idea what was going on but whilst waiting for the manager to come down to speak to us, we were told by one of the women that it is down to personal family issues. When the manager finally came down to speak to us he told us it was due to Covid and that he had informed *********** a few days before. I reiterated that we had not received any communication from *********** about this. He was not sympathetic in the slightest and neither did even try to help us with the situation we now found ourselves in. During the time we were stood in the conservatory waiting for someone to explain what was going on we had decided it was not somewhere we would be happy to stay anyway, no customer service skills, no empathy and a not very clean looking establishment. We felt incredibly let down by both The Village Inn and ***********, however upon returning home and speaking to *********** customer services we have discovered that The Village Inn have not informed *********** at all of their closure!
