Never staying again We paid for the room when we arrived and wasasked when we would like breakfast, the room wasn't very clean dirty nets hung at windows.mold in shower. The dining room smelt of grease and everything you touched was greasy tables were unclean . A lady arrived at 8.15 am took off her coat and cooked breakfast , deep fried sausage bacon hash brown , disgusting couldn't eat it .tea cups were dirty . Beds totally uncomfortable infact I would have slept better on a coat hanger. Woke in the night to use loo and the stench of ******** filled the bathroom . Yes it's cheap but £7 pound for a breakfast that's unhealthy inedible and rank is not value for money . Cleaners need educating on how to clean . The whole place needs an overhaul very tired and run down and no staff on premises if a problem has arisen in the night The place looks like a doss hole Never ever staying again !! Only good thing was its location .

Do not go here. We booked and then read the reviews which were disgusting. This is listed on ********** as a non smoking hotel but as you can see from previous reviewers this is not the case. We contacted ********** and asked for a full refund, they were very helpful but sadly as we had paid a certain rate we can not get a refund. We booked another hotel instead which was wonderful. We visited Portland Lodge the following morning to take these photos , I'm so glad we , two single women , didn't stay here. Broken windows , filthy corridors, piles of what looked like dirty clothes outside a room and then there was the smell, rancid stench was the best way to describe it. And no way was this a no smoking hotel. Stay well clear , we are going to contact trading standards and health and safety as it's just not safe to stay in.

When we arrived we were told that they had a problem with their boiler and the only rooms with hot water were on the ground floor. We were taken through a corridor which stank of cigarette smoke. We were told we were the only 2 in the hotel but as we passed one room the TV was blaring out. The room itself smelt of cigarettes the sheets were clean but were grey. Outside there was rubbish piled up by the window. We were asked what time we wanted breakfast as we were the only people in. We Could have it between 07:30 - 08:30. When we went to have a look at the dining room it was locked. We will never go back to this hotel or Portland. Absolutely no where open to get a meal. After driving around for 3 hours we packed and came home

Arrived to find no one on site, called the number several times and not answered. Looking around for staff I found several broken windows, broken door handles and drug paraphernalia scattered on floors. All carpets filthy and a smell of urine and cigarette smoke. Found other accommodation...Still awaiting call back from place

We booked four nights & suffered one before finding somewhere much better for not much more. The Portland Lodge is a very down at heel & very unattractive establishment. The twin room we were given was in a very poor state & very dirty with thick dirt on all surfaces. The towels & bedding were very shabby, discoloured & indeed we have thrown out better ourselves. The furniture was broken & marked & was only fit for the tip. The bathroom was dirty with mould around the shower cubicle which was also badly stained. Old white wooden toilet seat had seen better days & was loose. After using the shower you felt no cleaner as the place was filthy & it was difficult not to touch surfaces as the room was so small. During the evening as we went to bed there were people below our room smoking ******** which filled our room with the stink of the drug, this made it very difficult to breathe & impossible to sleep The whole hotel was in a very shabby state with ceiling tiles broken / missing in the corridors & the floors in public areas were filthy. The outside is no better with rubbish lying around the public areas & the whole hotel in disrepair.

This place is absolutely disgusting I’m talking wipe your feet on the way out ! On checking in someone wrote DUST on the tv table, stunk of ****, our room was filthy I dropped somethibf under the bed it was full of rubbish, dirt, stone on sheets like dried blood showers just filthy . Had to ly on top of the bed with clothes, complained an she simply didn’t care , honestly don’t stay here it’s filthy . Checked out early to check in somewhere that’s didn’t make us itch and feel so dirty. Need to close it down. Don’t know how they had a 5 hygene rating must of taken it from another hotel! No chance it was from here. Environmental Health should pay a visit

I don’t mind the fact that the decor is tired and the building needs some repairs but being disgustingly filthy to that degree is inexcusable. Carpets are stained, linen was stained, shower room & toilet genuinely had not been cleaned for a while. I put t-shirts on the pillows as makeshift pillowcases because I didn’t want my face touching the linen! The bedsheets were sticky to the touch so I slept pretty-much clothed. Don’t stay here unless you are desperate. There was a sign saying they want to be “green” so hang up towels you want to re-use but, to be honest, this place has bigger things to address in their immediate environment. On the plus side….they do save energy by not bothering to service & clean the rooms!

First to make it clear this is a budget hotel, rooms, bed bathroom etc as you would expect for a budget property. Prices in this area are more expensive than those inland and further north. My little criticisms were the heating was a bit hit and miss, I know it was June but not the warmest part of the month. The car park was a little restricted by scaffolding and far less spaces than there are rooms. One morning the cooked breakfast was a little light due to shortages.
