Although I travelled solo I was part of a larger group. The company I travel with tends to use excellent hotels and this was no exception. My room was very large and, even though it was on the side of the hotel, had a super view of the waterfront. The decor was quirky and I loved it. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. The provision of a bath and separate shower cubicle was ideal. I would have liked bedside lights to have been slightly brighter (difficult to read in bed) but that is a minor quibble. A special mention for the 'Artisan' coffee bags - different and very good ... I have to admit that I bought two home with me! The restaurant menus were designed to cater for the group booking. There were three well-balanced choices for every course and I noticed that those who had special dietary needs were catered for and discussed by the restaurant staff. The restaurant is obviously a popular place to eat but we had our own section which made it easier for us and the staff. There was some delay in serving the food one evening, but this was remedied the following day. Breakfasts were good and it made a change to have table service and not buffet style. There was a small(ish) error on my bar bill but this was dealt with promptly and cheerfully by the lovely receptionist when I queried it on settling up. As always, my criteria is - would I return? Yes, I would be very happy to return here and also to stay in the sister hotel in Bury St Edmunds if it is of the same standard.

First the good…the hotel is nicely furnished and decorated, lots of different art on the walls which makes it feel like a top end hotel. The breakfast was good, and the general ambience was calm and relaxed. Now the bad…car parking is a joke. I had to park my car in a sketchy public car park on the quay 5 mins away from the hotel because the hotel car park was full (mainly because a coach had parked in there). The room we stayed in was in dire need of a refurb, the walls were marked and scuffed, the furniture was falling apart, and nothing matched. The bed was lumpy and the pillows tiny. Size of the room was good but was generally disappointing. Our friends also stayed in the hotel and were in a refurbed room and loved it, so if you do book, ask for a refurbed room! Would I stay again? Probably not.

WE went for lunch in this incredible hotel on the waterfront and the decor is truely amazing. The food is upmarket and perfect and the bedrooms have the most wonderful views over the harbour. The reception furniture I could have sat in all day with the art and view of the harbour

My husband and I visited this hotel for a one night stay. The hotel lobby is lovely and the location is great, beautiful view over the harbour. We stayed in a Harbour View Room. The room itself was nice, although a bit tired. The bathroom on the other hand wasn’t so good. The lighting didn’t work in the shower and the shower itself was a bit grotty. It’s needs a refresh. We had breakfast included in our stay. For what we had breakfast was very overpriced. Paying for breakfast was £18 per person and I was given one slice of toast and some avocado on top. It was very disappointing. We wouldn’t return which is a shame as the location was great.

Cannot imaging wanting to stay anywhere else in Ipswich. Clean, well presented and smartly decorated hotel in ideal location. Contemporay feel to the interior of our room, with well appointed bathroom. As mentioned, ideal location, on the quay. Small car park beside the building, a bonus, although it did appear to fill up quickly. Local bars and cafes nearby. We had dinner in the very busy hotel restaurant. Food was good and as expected expensive-ish (like most good restaurants these days). Staff were excellent throughout our stay.

From the time that my other half and I stopped to look at the menu outside the restaurant, Paulo treated us as though he was inviting us to eat in his home! He was amazingly friendly, promoted the various menu options without being pushy at all and made me excited about my decision to eat there! The food was excellent quality and well-presented, so hats off to the kitchen staff! I highly recommend Salthouse Harbour’s restaurant and would eagerly eat there again!!!

Lovely location overlooking the marina, comfortable bed and the room was spotless. The staff were very helpful and polite. However, both the food and drinks were overpriced. The food was average at best, the scallops were served cold and were sent back, they heated up the plate and brought them back, still lukewarm. The steak was ordered medium rare but when it arrived it was double the thickness at one end so was overdone at the other. The quality of the steak was below par for £32 plus £5 for potatoes. The breakfast the following morning also arrived lukewarm, my wife’s fried egg was cold. We made our complaints known when we checked out but they weren’t interested. Our bill was £488.00 for 1 night, we won’t be going back!
