This accommodation is very well situated in the heart of Whitby. The style of the communal areas are lovely. It was quite clean. The communal terrace is also nice, though spider webs could be found every where around the seats. However, there are some downsides which will prevent me from a second stay at this accommodation, which are the lack of parking, challenge of finding an empty car park nearby, extremely small size of the room and lack of essential amenities. The room is too small and you literally need to jump into the bed and stay there for everything you want to do as there’s not enough space in the room to sit. There’s only one chair in the room which is odd for a two bed room. There are no tables to sit at while two drawers are there, which seem unnecessary. There's no refrigerator. Additionally, the mattress or the extra mattress under the bed, and the pillows smelled bad which was really unpleasant. If they complete the amenities, get some reserved parking spot in the Church St car park and replace the smelly stuff with new ones, this place can turn into a decent place to stay. Thanks.

A lovely unique place to stay. Lovely and friendly staff. So quiet and peaceful. Excellent location. Rooms had tea, coffee, biscuits. 100% recommend this place.

Room 5. Good bits: location is good easy access to Whitby, but that’s about it. Bad bits: uncomfortable bed, too small for somebody over 6 foot. Pillows not supportive at all. Room dingy and small without curtains, just like see through sheets so anybody walking up the stairs next to the window can see in. How stupid. Just get some proper curtains. No shower only a bath. Tv was like something out of the 1990’s £130 a night was a complete rip off. Don’t bother

Bed too small, uncomfortable and pillows unsupportive.
No proper curtain so privacy an issue.
Tv was tiny and a brand I’d never heard of.
There was a splattered dead fly on the pillow case.

I’m a regular visitor to Whitby but this is the first time I’ve stayed here. We stayed in the Dove loft which is like a little apartment. Great location and easy nice early check in (12.30pm). Old world charm in abundance. Nice decor. Wonderful roll top bath which filled up really quickly. Nice tea tray with small fridge which was very handy for a bottle of bubbly. Spotlessly clean throughout. I happened to meet one of the owners on our day of departure and she was very friendly . Would definitely return.

Stayed for 2 nights. Website states it's accessible. Chose room 2 as said ground floor but! Up a slope not flat then pebbles in front of room which is on a high decked area. As I use a wheelchair this was extremely difficult and would not stay there again.

We stayed in the dove loft, which is beautiful. All the furnishings and decor are calming and thoughtfully put together to create the perfect base to retreat to when the hustle and bustle of Whitby in the summer season gets a bit much. Theres so much to do and see in Whitby, but I kept finding excuses to pop back to the loft for a bit to refresh and centre myself. It's spacious, (which is nice after weaving through the crowds on regatta Monday!) and this meant that we could all find somewhere to gather our thoughts without feeling on top of each other. If, like me, you love the colour and excitement of this busy little town, but need somewhere calm to retreat occasionally, this loft is perfect. I saw another review say the telly is too small, but it's perfectly useable, how much telly do you need to watch on holiday anyway? It's perfect for putting something on to keep your teenager entertained while you zone out for 20 minutes, and that's all you need. Now on to the bath!! I stayed for 2 days and had 4 baths! I would have stayed in it all day if I didn't have other holiday activities to do! It's so big and it fills up really quickly. Luxury! I really would recommend staying at shepherd's purse to anyone I liked. The dove loft is the biggest room, I've stayed in a smaller room before and that was beautiful too, very comfortable, cosy and had a lovely seating area on the balcony outside the room too, which most rooms have. There is also a charming courtyard that is lit up beautifully with fairy lights at night. 10/10
