This Hotel has the most stunning views out across Robin Hoods Bay, staff are very helpful, after that the room we were given certainly was a huge let down apart from the view, it’s decor is dated and in need of refurbishment, interior doors that are there but no locks to secure them. The door to our room had a handle that was coming away from the door externally which, in fairness was fixed quickly when we were out from the room. However, it had not been secured and locked as we opened the door without having to use the key, Major error in my opinion but the handle was fixed which we at least could lock from outside and inside. Bathroom! The shower pushed out more water than the bath drain could cope with, ending up with me standing in water up to my ankles, it then took five minutes to drain out, the side panel had a sharp hole in the end which was clearly visible , the bath had a big chip in the enamel and a hole on the outer return of the bath roll top. The sink had a plug with chain attached but not to the fixing point on the sink itself, When the sink plug was pulled out the draining water caused the bath drain to bubble and gurgle as it did so. The tiling and loo were in good order but the towel rail which had ‘Extremely Hot’ notice above it was anything but hot in fact ice cold. Worryingly the floor flexed as you approached the bath and loo itself. Beds were clean and well made up the carpet had been recently fitted. The Restaurant area was situated such that you had a wonderful view out over Robin Hood’s Bay, staff were attentive and helpful, all breakfast comestibles were well presented and easily seen. One table we sat at clearly had an issue with loose fitments and moved in all directions. Carpet on the floor had clearly seen better days and in places heavy duty staples had been used to hold it in place at heavy traffic areas and at one point had a gap where no carpet existed. The bannister at the stairs to the first floor were loose and moving under pressure, a fire door situated at the top of the stairway is a major hazard to anyone especially if carrying anything as there is inadequate room to stand with any degree of safety to open it, this needs re positioning away from the top stair for safety . All fire doors also need a soft close mechanism so preventing them from slamming shut when let go by Hotel customers especially late at night. This Hotel is in need of a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to a standard for which we were charged for a 3 night stay. The car park is situated away from the Hotel and any suitcases or other articles have to be lugged into the Hotel yourself, no Sack Truck or Trolley to help you do so. In this climate this is a massive oversight by the Hotel Management to customers especially those with mobility problems even though the Disabled spaces are near the hotel. I can state that I would not return to this Hotel again as it is a massive disappointment.
