Not an easy property to review. I want to be fair to management, but also to potential travelers and this is such a mixed bag. As to the hotel room itself, it is very tired but also very clean. The floor and bed both creak with seemingly with any movement, and everything in the room shouts that the property is dated and past its prime. However, cleanliness is definitely a big deal for many of us, and the resort scores well on that front. Additionally, the rooms back up to beautiful mountain views, and a stream also runs along the back of the property. There is a recently-renamed tavern on property, but we were told just before our arrival date that, during our stay, it would not be open, due to staff shortages. The more formal dining area, however, was open for business. We did not eat there. However, the one thing we will always remember about this resort is the unbelievable bar area adjacent to the formal dining room. I’m absolutely serious when I say that it is one of the coziest, most quintessential North Woods/Adirondack venues you will ever see. With a big stone fireplace, big leather chairs, and the obligatory trout fishing memorabilia, it is out of a movie. Service was quick and friendly too. In short, the rooms are tired and there are staff shortages, but that amazing bar and overall cleanliness merit a solid score.
