Fort Gary
Hotel is difficult to get to with construction and the parking is not convenient. The area is a high crime location and it can be very uncomfortable around the area. Hotel was packed with people. We were informed many were staying because they were displaced, or coming from out of country. Which is completely fine, and only an issue for the sheer volume of people and families living long term in the building and in the small reception area. There was only 2 elevators working and one was broken for a while, there were long lines to access the elevator. Staff were obviously exhausted and mostly indifferent. There was security but the area and hotel did not feel secure. It was a very loud, cramped, hectic one night stay for us.

Room was clean, modern, and quite. We were at the end of a hall, so that probably helped. We stayed in a bi-level King suite, which I would highly recommend. The view from the room was not pretty, just a roof of an adjacent building. However we are not in Winnipeg to look out the hotel room window. Bed was very comfortable and the excellent water pressure in the shower was wonderful. At night, the living room area was rather dark and could use a lighting upgrade. Hotel staff were very friendly, from the breakfast (they should have a sign saying ”please seat yourself” - as guests sometimes wait a while for host to come over and tell them to seat where ever they want) to the pleasant staff at the front desk. Always lots of staff at reception, so no waiting. Although we didn't use the pool area, we looked at it, and it was one of the most appealing looking hotel pools we've ever seen. We used the attached underground parking for 5 days - no issues. Parking area is quite large with numerous levels, would seem to be ample space. Easy in/out access throughout the day.

We chose this hotel since my toddler wanted to go to the dinosaur water park, which he really enjoyed. My biggest concern is that they no longer provide room cleaning service (unless requested). I was never informed of this and was so confused by the second day that I finally went to the front desk to inquire why my room hadn't been cleaned. By this time the cleaning staff had left and I spent my last night cleaning my hotel room as the garbage bins were full and we had run out of towels (there is very limited space to hang towels in the bathroom). The front desk told me to place the towels and garbage in the hallway and that they would drop off supplies. Fresh towels and coffee refills were quickly dropped off, but my used towels and garbage sat in the hallway for about 12 hours. I was wondering why everyone had piles of towels and garbage outside their door! Not exactly the best ”covid-19” cleanliness protocol. I would have appreciated being informed of their cleaning protocols during the reservation or check-in process.

The sound of air condition was quite loud but compare to the sound of the shower, it was relatively not that bad. The water flow pressure makes the sound over 5 mins before it became normal. We expected Fairmount standard higher than we experienced.

The suites are great. Very spacious. Clean. Great amenities for a lengthy stay. My floor was quiet and I could not hear noises from other rooms at all. Beds are comfy. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a grab and go (Covid related I am assuming as their is quite a large dining area that is closed). As good of options as possible to take back to your room as one could expect I would say. One suggestion would be to add bread as an option as well. The one big downside to my stay was, the security presence was alarming. I figured out why after the last three nights. My room was facing the parking lot and another hotel. Throughout the night and into the morning there is constant yelling, flighting swearing and screaming from other hotel guests lingering around outside. I think the security folks are doing their best by being a presence but it’s not enough to prevent the constant disruption. I’m going to try moving “across the hall” to the other side of the hotel, assuming it will be better as i won’t be facing the hotel parking lot. Aside from this issue, the hotel is pretty darn perfect. Thus why I gave it 4 stars. Unfortunately, the constant sleep interruptions is a major issue.
