Washington Central Hotel and Sleepwell Inn

Tidy hotel in a central location, breakfast cooked to order!

Stayed at the Washington many times on business and commented many times on the food. It is consistently top notch. Dinner in particular is excellent. Staff are friendly and attentive. Not had chance to use the pool and gym but colleagues do so on a regular basis.

Really sad to have had to cancel my family membership for the leisure facilities at the Washington central. Appalled at their lack of interest in the sanitation of the water! I’ve had hot tub rash the last 3 weeks. Many times the hot tub was murky, and I was told it was safe to bathe in. It was also mentioned I should perhaps take antihistamines for my hot tub rash by the manager. I was fine from November-march. I have owned my own hot tub and I know it’s quite the science lesson maintaining one. I have no confidence at all in the staff here knowing anything about water trea**ent after speaking to them about it. I ended up feeling a right pest constantly whinging. My kids were also commenting it was dirty on the bottom of the swimming pool and the stairs to enter the pool. The pool is often cold as well. Sauna has been out of order for the last 6 weeks and before then it was a rare treat it was working. Gym, old machines, granted they’re good heavyweight ones but on one I had to hold onto a pin to work it, excerise bike was failing through the workout. I didn’t use the gym again after that day. This is a real shame, I mentioned in my complaint that it’s a nice place and these things are really letting it down. I’m quite sad that we can’t go anymore as it was ideal location and the pool is a good size. The reception staff are friendly and it’s a lovely cafe in there too, we often enjoyed a treat in there before or after a swim. I would return if sanitation was improved massively.

We were married in the Washington Central last year and came to celebrate our first anniversary today. The food was absolutely beautiful, couldn't fault it. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, immaculately clean, very friendly and efficient staff.

Unbelievable food! I’ve spent many years traveling and eating, So I was particularly surprised to be served the best sea bass I’ve ever had, here. It was simply superb. Firstly it was perfectly cooked. Secondly the way it was served meant the taste and texture were perfectly preserved. It was delicate, crispy, crumbly and just perfectly cooked in the centre. The sauce and everything with it served it perfectly. Quite an mazing achievement. An achievement to the point it’s got stuck in my head a bit afterwards so I’ll have to go back. I believe the chef was called Dempsey. So, thanks for an amazing meal. It was really something special!

The ‘annex’ rooms are across a busy rowing 2 crossings. The parking was absolutely shocking. To be fair the restaurant evening service and food were excellent but too much hassle backwards and forwards for me. Won’t be returning.

My son and I went to use the gym and Poole etc on their try for £10 deal before you buy a membership.. Honestly it was awful, first the sweaty stale smell in the gym was unbearable and the equipment was so old, we tried both bikes but they both stopped working, we couldn't bear the smell so had a look next-door at some old rowing machines but they had sweat stains on , infact all equipment was dirty and rusty. The changing rooms stunk and were dirty, the pool and jacuzzi looked worn and stuck in the 80s , after 15 minutes it was all we could take we didn't dare try the pool etc . On our way out, the receptionist said we weren't in long , we said it wasn't for us, but I don't think she cared.. A very poor experience

The spa part of the hotel was closed to hotel guests till 8.30 at night and only open for 1 hour as the local children where having swimming lessons it would be nice if you could know this when booking

Great location, efficient check in. Room clean but dated. The walls are so thin you can hear everything from the rooms at the side of you and the TV from the rooms below. The bar area is cosy but a bit pricey but that is to be expected in a central hotel. I didn’t have the breakfast which was included in the price but the people that I spoke to said it was great and if you chose not to have it you can have a packed lunch to take with you. The central location is perfect for the shops, bars and restaurants. Overall a good hotel and with a little bit of work I would return. After requesting a quiet location I hope room 34 was an error on their part and not an actual “ Quiet location”
