The hotel is fine. I had one of the tiny rooms (which the site did warn me about). The room could fit a bed and a bathroom (with shower over toilet). The bedding was decent and the shower worked well enough. They provided some real towels though a bathmat for outside the room would be great so you don't track water everywhere after the shower. The drain was initially blocked by they fixed it. Has a kettle. The location is ok (you could walk just over 1km to the zoo). Not too many restaurants nearby. The window opened to a block of flats. Calling that a "city view" is a bit cheeky. The room is also quite hot in summer, and the bed is like sleeping ok a table, though again this seems standard in Qinghai.

Starting with the positives. The construction and decor was great. Showering space was also nice and new. Staff were also helpful and nice.
Amenities are ok. Everything you would expect for washing up. But no AC for many rooms without windows is a travesty. Only a electric fan that can only blow for 1 hour at a time. Easy to get asphyxiated at night.
Horrible stench of body odor and cigarette smoke was present when I entered my room.
Hygiene seemed alright until I showered. And with a small waft of the towels a terrible stench of cigarette odor pierced my nostrils.. Expecting guests to wipe off with this odorous smell is disappointing.
Water also leaks from the shower compartment into the toilet floor.

I booked two nights. On the first morning, I complained that the room was too hot, so I asked the front desk to change the room. I said I would go downstairs to change the room card, but before I went downstairs, the cleaning lady suddenly swiped the card and came in while we were lying on the bed. Imagine someone suddenly pushed the door open in a very private environment. We were not embarrassed, but the two aunts left in embarrassment and shame. I don't know how the front desk notified the aunts, but it was very unpleasant and I lodged a serious protest against the hotel's service.
