Jinpyokaku Honten

We stayed at this inn after hearing it had recently reopened after renovations. We received a free shuttle from Yudanaka Station, arriving in just 7-8 minutes. The inn's imposing front gate, dating back to 1901, exudes a sense of history spanning over 120 years. As expected, it stands out from the other inns in the area, beloved by such renowned authors as Natsume Soseki, Yosano Akiko, Hayashi Fumiko, Kawabata Yasunari, and Tsuboi Sakae. We were greeted with a smile by a male receptionist, and the lobby was immaculately clean. There were numerous pieces related to the aforementioned renowned authors, including their handwritten calligraphy and writing desks. Our room, located on the second floor, had a separate living room and bedroom, offering a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The private bath and other amenities were recently renovated, making it extremely comfortable. The inn's location was impeccable, being just a 30-minute walk from the entrance to the Jigokudani Monkey Park, a popular tourist spot. The communal open-air baths are available in both separate and mixed baths, and are spacious enough, including the indoor bath. However, please note that the water near the source is quite hot. A list of ingredients is posted in the changing room, but there was no efficacy chart, which is common in hot spring facilities, so it would be appreciated if they could provide one (including English translations). Meals were served at the nearby Hotaritei restaurant, and the variety of dishes, mainly featuring Shinshu beef, sashimi, and plenty of fresh local vegetables, was very satisfying. A new head chef will be joining the inn this year, and they will be serving Shinshu beef shabu-shabu and other dishes in the restaurant, so I'd like to return next year!
