Terracotta Warriors, also known as the Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Army, are located 1.5 km south of Xiyang Village, Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. They are the mausoleum of the first Qin emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The following is a detailed introduction to the Terracotta Warriors: 1. Historical Background: - The construction of the Terracotta Warriors began in 246 BC and took nearly 40 years to complete. After Qin Shi Huang unified the six kingdoms, he ordered the construction of a large-scale mausoleum to consolidate his rule. The Terracotta Warriors are part of the mausoleum and were used as burial objects. This reflects the power of the Qin Dynasty and the authority of Qin Shi Huang, and also embodies the ancient Chinese funeral culture and social hierarchy. 2. Excavation Process: - In March 1974, villagers in Xiyang Village, Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, accidentally discovered some terracotta fragments while digging a well. After archaeological exploration and trial excavation, it was confirmed that this was a large-scale burial pit, namely the No. 1 Terracotta Warriors Pit. - In 1976, the archaeological team excavated the No. 2 Pit at the northern end of the eastern side of the No. 1 Pit. I just got back from Xi'an, and I'm totally blown away by the Terracotta Army and the Grand Tang Mall! This trip was a feast for the eyes and a cultural deep dive. Without further ado, here's my guide: Terracotta Army Museum Tickets: Buy them in advance on the official WeChat public account and choose your time slot. Guide: Absolutely essential! Otherwise, you're just looking at a bunch of clay figures. Hire a professional guide at the museum, rent an audio guide, or find an electronic guide online. It'll help you truly experience the grandeur of the Qin Dynasty. Visiting Order: Start with Pit 1 for the full impact of the "Eighth Wonder of the World." The vast army formation evokes the might of the Qin army sweeping across the six states. Then, head to Pit 2, the highlight with its diverse troop types. Finally, visit Pit 3, the smallest but representing the command center. Grand Tang Mall Opening Hours: Open all day, but the Tang Dynasty atmosphere truly comes alive after dark when the lights come on. Performances: Check the show schedule on the WeChat public account beforehand. Don't miss out on the "Dancing Lady" and "Li Bai's Poetry" performances. Food: The food here is incredible! It's sometimes quite difficult to judge an experience in big Chinese cities as, 1. they're so huge, and 2. they're so huge. Xian is no different. It's a huge city. But … it does have some unique characteristics that set it apart from other Chinese monster cities. The "drum tower" and "city walls" that are found in many Chinese centers seem more organic, part of the city, than other places. The city revolves around these monuments and they don't seem so distant and untouchable. Although one could say the same for a city like Nanjing, Xian's relics seem more alive and better maintained. And, furthermore, temples like the Dayan Pagoda are the originals, the forerunners, the cornerstones of ancient Chinese architecture. And then there is the Terracotta Army. This is a vast area, not like in the photos you see on the internet. All the digging sites are divided into 3 gigantic halls, each with there own small museum sharing facts about the contents. The figures themselves are really well preserved. It's hard to believe that they're thousands of years old. The surroundings could do with less shops all selling the same little figurines, but all-in-all, it's a worthwhile experience. #historicculture#summervacation

Xi'an has many interesting places. Due to limited time, I only visited a few of them. In the morning, I first went to Huaqing Pool. Maybe because I didn't follow a tour guide, I left after wandering around for half an hour. Without understanding the history and story background, I then went to the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of the First Emperor of Qin. Following the guide's steps and listening to his explanation, I felt it was very worthwhile and learned a lot. Xi'an's attractions are three parts sightseeing and seven parts listening. In other places, you might be able to tour around by yourself, but in Xi'an, you might leave within half an hour if you tour by yourself, which is meaningless. You must follow the guide's steps. After leaving the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of Qin, it was already evening. I went to the Drum Tower and Bell Tower. These two places are not far apart, and there are really a lot of people. The photos will definitely look good. Then I went to the city wall for a walk. The city wall is really long and it's not very realistic to walk. Later, I went to the Tang Dynasty Everbright City, which is very close to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda has a music fountain at seven and nine o'clock in the evening, which is quite beautiful, but there are a bit too many people. I have to talk about this Tang Dynasty Everbright City. It's really different!!! Very interesting with performances and singing, and there are all kinds of small shops next to it. If you come to Xi'an, you must come to the Tang Dynasty Everbright City to experience it. No matter how much you talk about it or see it, it's better to experience it yourself.
