Zulu Surf Hotel Tamarindo

Firstly, let me say that the staff there are their biggest asset. I couldn’t fault the staff in any way. They were friendly and warm. Offered help will all services like tours or fun places to go or local food or taxis to the airport etc etc. she always greeted me and wanted to have a conversation about my day (as a solo traveller, that’s nice, as most the time can be spent alone). She seemed to care that I had a fun time there and did her best to help me enjoy my time. The downsides are just a few things with noise, it’s quite close to main road and the windows are super thin. Was woken up a few times. Also the communal areas can be quite close to rooms and you don’t appreciate people smoking, drinking, talking loudly outside your door whether it’s 4pm or 4am!
Hotel Boyeros

We read mixed reviews, but we had a pleasant time here and no complaints. Check-in was easy, not much English, but we got there. We parked by the room, which was great. We arrived late afternoon for 1 night, we swam in the pool, kids loved the slide, there was a lovely atmosphere. We slept really well, no noise, and had a lovely breakfast. If you expect a plush hotel, you'll be disappointed. If you are happy with basic with great service, you'll be happy. It's very central too.
Wyndham Tamarindo

This trip was for my honey moon, the staff was pleasant and helpful. The shuttle service was easy and efficient and the trip to town was less then 5 mins away. The beach club that was attached to the hotel is 6 mins away and prime location in the beach. All the rooms have a beautiful view and would definitely book again even if it is not right in the beach as everything is within walking distance and a taxi ride away (we paid 5$ from center of town to our hotel) the rooms were clean and the ac unit kept the room nice and cool which is refreshing coming in from the humid outdoors. Definitely book again … pura vida
Hilton Garden Inn Guanacaste Airport

This is your typical Hilton hotel you would find in America, honestly if you just came here you would think you are back home. Also, they have amenities such a restaurant, pool and fitness room at this hotel. Restaurant food is okay, nothing like the food you have probably have enjoyed while traveling around Costa Rica. Lastly, the room was clean and standard, no fuss! It is also very close to all the rental car return places. Breakfast is not included with reservation, it is something you pay out of pocket. Overall, very great option for someone traveling in or out of Liberia Intl Airport.
Bahia del Sol Beach Front Boutique Hotel

This place is amazing! It is secluded and quiet, perfect for relaxing. The beach is right at your door and the views are indescribable. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, we definitely did not want to leave! The pool bar is beautiful and the smoothies and cocktails are delicious. Taco and Josue were our favorite bartenders....ask for a banana coconut smoothie. It will change your life! There are several restaurants within walking distance along with a small market that has most anything you might need. The included breakfast options were plentiful and were made to order. Our room was beautiful and surrounded by greenery and nature. Can't wait to go back!
Hotel Hacienda la Pacifica

The only thing I would change is the breakfast - it’s the same each day, has no meat and does not vary. The grounds are lovely and fun to explore, there are animals throughout the grounds wild, which means you have to watch out for droppings. The staff were wonderful, super helpful, very flexible - I loved their lending library of books and the suites are incredible for the price. The pool is nice, although as it’s in the middle of a flat windy area it is hard to keep it clean so are often leaves and petals across it - it’s also only 1m depth at the minimum making it hard for children to play in it and hard for it to get warm. We really enjoyed the quiet and solitude and being able to park the car outside our suite, which save walking with heavy bags - not much you could do here without a car though.

My wife Jamie and I had an amazing time here! It was sad to leave, and I wish so much that we could have stayed longer. The hotel is unique in a really good way. For example, instead of the usual mass-produced, foreign-manufactured toilet paper dispenser, our bathroom featured a beautiful, one of a kind, live-edge wooden TP holder. I absolutely loved the level of detail and personal touch. The finishes all throughout the property are creative and constantly remind you of the natural surroundings. They genuinely value artwork and even encourage guests to participate in free local art classes facilitated by the hotel. Attached is a picture of my keychain that I made. His name is “Ralph”. It feels so good to express creativity while relaxing on vacation. Usually creativity serves as a much-needed temporary escape from chaos of daily life, but starting the creative process from an already relaxed state is a game changer. I would highly recommend it! The staff at this hotel were such a pleasure to talk to. This was some of the absolute best service I have ever experienced in my whole life at any hotel. Everyone was so nice and happy. I want to especially thank Joe and Edward: I first met Joe at the concierge. He said if we need anything during our stay, please let him know. A few hours later down at the beach club Jamie and I were talking about how we wanted to make dinner reservations for that evening’s Annexation of Nicoya bicentennial celebration. I said to Jamie “we will need to try to catch Joe when we get back up the hill to the front desk”. Seriously, just a few minutes later Joe appeared at the beach club, addressed us by name, and asked if there was anything he could help us out with. Right there at the beach Joe made us a dinner reservation using his wireless phone. Edward was usually working the bar at the main pool/restaurant. Jamie was so happy with everything he made. There were some handcrafted house cocktails and some nonalcoholic fresh local fruit juice that Edward mixed up from scratch. I enjoyed making solo trips to the bar for drinks to bring back to Jamie in the room because Edward was so great to talk to. Thank you to Joe, Edward, and their entire team for A+ Excellent customer service!
Papagayo Golden Palms Beachfront Hotel

Solo trip over a long weekend, and Golden Palms was a great choice. Pros: - Quiet. This could be because I went during low season, but I twice had the pool to myself in the morning and at night. There was no wait for food, and I had my pick of beach lounges. - Everyone was SUPER friendly, but this is consistent in Costa Rica. - Location is less than 30 minutes from the airport. Also, was closer to Nicaragua for my one day trip there. - Rooms are exactly as pictured, and clean. Beds were made daily, with towels/robes refreshed daily. - Food portions were satisfying. - Property is beautiful upon arrival. I went on a number of tours, and multiple passengers from other hotels commented on how beautiful the property was. - Price was more than fair for where i stayed and the service I received. If back in Papagayo, I'd stay here again, hands down. - Security was checked every time I arrived or left the property. Cons: - Bugs/spiders in the bathroom. I actually didn't complain about this because it didn't bother me, but I can see how it would with other people. - Pool needs cleaning multiple times a day, but wasn't. I'm weird - WEIRD about swimming in a pool with a lot of debris. I did it, but hated doing it. - Restaurant food was ok. It definitely isn't varied. Over my four nights there I tried almost everything, I didn't hate anything. The pancakes I tried the morning I left were delicious, I'd recommend those. - Because the restaurant food isn't exceptional, the location is sort of a negative as well because you're not near anything. You'll have to drive or take a very expensive taxi to eat at other locations. All in all, I enjoyed my time there, and would not only stay again, but recommend it to others looking for an reasonably priced Papagayo/Guanacaste hotel stay

Even though it was the rainy season and the place was undergoing a fair amount of maintenance, it had a good buzz and excellent amenities. Amazing pool, lovely water quality.. the route to the beach was an arduous trek as the signposting is poor so we could not find our way easily there and back. A tough place to stay for any length of time without a vehicle of some sort..

the best and i mean absolute best staff and vibes!! shout out to my guy ponytail/goatee, diego at the front desk and my man ivaan (who makes the worlds best spicy margaritas!!). i loved how everyone would connect and hang out in the evenings and how much fun i had every single day (currently staying in selina santa teresa north and its the exact opposite, no vibes and the staff is very unhelpful/rude). one thing i will say tho is the facilities could use a LOT of work - more cleanings in the bathrooms, some upgrades to the suites (i had a private micro and it was a windowless room with a bunk bed - no mirror, no rack to hang anything etc.) but this is definitely a management issue. overall, loved tamarindo so much! holds a special place in my heart always and forever
