We had a wonderful stay at Urakusatsu Tou, a brand-new hotel that truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly escorted by the staff. Although parking was allocated at a private outdoor parking area, the hotel thoughtfully provided an escort service, making the process very smooth and comfortable.
The room was spacious and beautifully designed. Communication was easy as the receptionist spoke fluent English. The hotel also provided pajamas and daily clothing, which was a lovely and convenient touch.
The onsen experience was outstanding—definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. You can immediately feel your skin becoming smooth after soaking, which made each visit incredibly relaxing.
We stayed for three nights with both breakfast and dinner included. Meals were served à la carte, and the menu changed daily, surprising us every time. The food was delicious and very filling—we were completely satisfied after every meal.
That said, there are a few areas we hope the hotel could improve:
• During winter, the room felt quite cold as the air-conditioning heater did not function properly and was unable to warm up the room.
• Breakfast hours could be extended a little later for guests who prefer a more relaxed morning.
• Providing a choice of pillows would further improve sleeping comfort.
• The blue indicator light on the room’s control panel remains very bright even when all lights are turned off, which can be a bit distracting at night.
Overall, this hotel offers excellent service, comfort, and an unforgettable onsen and dining experience. Highly recommended, and we believe it will be even better with these small improvements.
Highly recommended. Definitely worth the money. (Free) shuttle service from/to Karuizawa saved us much time. All the onsens (including the one inside the room) are enjoyable. Definitely will visit again.
The hotel's location is superb, right in the heart of the onsen town, making everything walkable. I booked a half-board plan, and both dinner and breakfast were quite good, with a wide variety of options. The restaurant staff were also very enthusiastic. The only downside is that the hotel feels a bit old, probably due to being open for a long time, so the facilities are a bit dated.
The facilities were very clean as they had just been renovated. The buffet had a great variety, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious! The heating in the room was apparently faulty, but I suspect the entire facility might have had issues, as even with the provided heater, some areas were very cold. At dinner, we were seated near the entrance, and it was so incredibly cold that many of the dishes were already cool, which was a real shame. When I went to the onsen in the morning, the changing room was so cold it felt like being outside. I warmed up in the hot spring, but then got cold again in the changing room. Also, there was a lot of hair on the floor near the dryers in the changing room, which was quite unpleasant. I used the onsen three times but never saw any staff cleaning it. There were hair straighteners in addition to dryers, but there were no outlets to plug in my own, which was also disappointing. I hope these issues can be improved.
Title: Unforgivable service, ridiculous charges, and total lack of respect for guests.
My stay at Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu Yubatake was a complete disaster from start to finish. The level of unprofessionalism is astounding.
1. Intrusive Wake-Up Call: On the second day, we were jolted awake at 9:00 AM by a phone call from the front desk just to ”confirm” our dinner time. There is absolutely no excuse for disturbing a guest's sleep for such a trivial matter, especially when a simple note under the door or a message on the phone system would suffice.
2. Dinner Reservation Fiasco: We had a confirmed reservation for the 9:00 PM dinner slot. When we arrived at the restaurant on time, we were rudely told we only had 15 minutes left to eat because the restaurant was closing. Why offer a 9:00 PM slot if you intend to close 15 minutes later? Their excuse was that they ”tried to call” to move us to a 7:30 PM slot. This is a lie—we were in our room all day and never received any call or message. Their poor internal communication and lack of a reliable system ruined our evening.
3. Sneaky Late Check-Out Fee: The hotel failed to inform us of the checkout time or the fees for late checkout. We were just 15 minutes late (at 10:15 AM), and they charged us 3,000 yen on the spot. This predatory fee was not mentioned during check-in, nor was it clearly stated in any visible policy. It feels like a scam to squeeze more money out of guests.
4. Useless Luggage Storage: After checkout, we simply wanted to store our luggage for a few hours before leaving town. They told us we had to pick it up by 12:00 PM noon. What is the point of offering ”storage” if it is only for an hour or two? This is an inconvenience, not a service.
Overall, this hotel is run by people who seem to care more about collecting fees than providing hospitality. I strongly advise against staying here.

Kazumi Ichinoyu is incredibly conveniently located right in the heart of Kusatsu. The hotel itself is very clean, with a modern Japanese ambiance that made for a wonderfully relaxing stay. The free-flowing hot spring baths are a bit on the warmer side, but they're incredibly soothing and truly melt away your fatigue. Yubatake is also within walking distance, making it perfect for sightseeing. I felt this inn offered a great balance of price and comfort, allowing us to fully enjoy Kusatsu without breaking the bank.
This was my first time staying at this hotel privately, but as it's a new one, it was clean and comfortable. I stayed in a twin room, and the space was more than satisfactory.
My only complaint was the food in the restaurant. They're committed to cutting costs, so they keep the staff to a minimum,
and apart from the all-you-can-drink option, they only offer beer and sake; you can't order sours or highballs. Why?
There's a wide variety of food, but most of it is thawed and reheated.
I guess this is common in business hotels these days.
Excellent value for money, with a half-board package that included dinner and breakfast. Dinner was very generous, though the aftertaste was just average; the Jōshū beef was the highlight. Breakfast quality was superb. Very satisfied with the cleanliness and comfort.
This is a fantastic hot spring hotel, offering a one-night stay with two meals, making it a great value. Breakfast and dinner are both buffets, and the buffet spread is excellent, especially the seasoned steaks, freshly squeezed orange juice (made on the spot), and pre-made banana milkshakes. In the evening, there's a Japanese folk song and dance performance, as well as adorable Kusatsu souvenirs—very kawaii. It was a truly memorable, enjoyable, and satisfying trip. The room also has its own onsen, which maintains a constant 38°C temperature and automatically refills when the water level drops. The room is stocked with high-end Kose shampoo and hair products, a high-end hair dryer, facial toiletries, lotion, hair products, and several kimono accessories. Booking a room with an indoor bath also offers executive lounge access from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and access to the newly opened VIP onsen in the annex, essentially renting the entire place out. It's very nice.
the dinner is insanely large portion, i feel so bad wasting alot of food and skipping some courses
luckily the breakfast is in normal portion
the onsen is nice, the outdoor onsen is less hot compare to the indoor
they also offer different design of yukata to pick from
Great

GGuest UserI looked forward to my stay in this hotel very much given the good comments on the Internet. The open air bath on the rooftop is great. You can see the stars on a clear days, but there is no shampoo and shower gel there. You can also choose your own yukata. They are not very fancy ones but much better than the standard basic yukata. However, I found the dinner disappointing. I paid around 6000 yen for the dinner. There were just a small portion of appetizers, udon noodles with pork, a pot of rice and a small dessert. I also paid extra for the drink. The taste was very average. You can have much better dinner in a restaurant in this area.
JJaQwWe stayed in Naraya House for 1 night and it was perfect. The staffs were all very kind and helpful that I am truly grateful for all their assistance given throughout our stay. We had a suite, rm no.206, it was stunningly amazing! I only know I am booking a suite with a beautiful view of the yubatake and private onsen. I didn't know it's a gigantic duplex suite with the best view of the yubatake! The room door opens to a western style living and dining area that fits with a set of sofa for 6 and a dining table for 4 with 2 benches. To the left of this western style area is 2 double beds, a walk-in closet and a toilet. I could see Japanese syle beddings in a cupboard which I believe they would be made when the room is booked for more than 2 persons. Facing the sofa is a TV panel. Behind the TV is a Japanese style sitting area with a coffee table and a view of the yubatake. The view is picturesque. There you can also find a stairs going down to the suite's private onsen bath. It's actually on a balcony overlooking the yubatake, the same gorgeous view as in its Japanese style sitting area above, just without the windows, ie closer and clearer picture of the yubatake without reflections. But be aware ppl on the street can see u too, as you can see the windows r just next to 7.11 The meal provided was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the freshly made sushi. The salmon roe was just so fresh that they were actually shining like marbles. All the ingredients used are high quality. My kid, who is usually picky on food, was pleased with the menu. He already wanted to come back again. Next time, we will stay here for more nights in order to better experience the beauty of Kusatzu.
Ps I usually don't bother to write a review, I am doing this one in return to the hotel's great service and hospitality. Thank you and until next time~
GGuest UserIt was my wife’s birthday hotel helped me arrange a special case. I have stayed 5+ times it has becomed very tourist mostly foreigners and my only complaint was little control over etiquette people taking photos and wearing swimsuits

EElena FesenkoKusatsu itself is a magnificent place. The hotel is located right in the center. The room type was traditional with futons, and we had a mountain view, which was stunning in the morning. The hotel is well-maintained. We absolutely loved the onsen at the hotel – it was incredibly enjoyable! It was clean, beautiful, and comfortable. I particularly want to highlight the breakfasts and dinners; the selection was absolutely superb. Highly recommended!
GGuest UserYou need to wear slippers to get in. The staffs can only speak little english, but they are very kind and polite.
The room is huge, it's like an apartment.
It also has nice snow view from window.
And the location is very close to the main road. It also close to the bus station.
The dinner and breakfast also tasty. Japanese fine dining haha.
YYouziのbinvI booked the highly-rated Bouun Ryokan three months in advance, supposedly in business for 462 years! The interior decor and tatami rooms were surprisingly new. The room service, the dining environment for dinner, and the exquisite Kaiseki cuisine were all incredibly impressive. We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel uses only the finest Japanese ingredients, and not a single dish or dessert was repeated.
I especially want to commend the Japanese gentleman who picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, and the young lady who helped us with our luggage on check-in day, January 5th. Both were exceptionally thoughtful. However, I must criticize a young male receptionist at the front desk – fair-skinned, round-faced, and wearing glasses. He didn't seem Japanese and was very impatient with guests. A high-end hotel like this shouldn't have such staff; it really detracts from the experience! Nevertheless, this won't stop me from staying here again on my next visit to Kusatsu.
GGuest UserHighly recommended. Definitely worth the money. (Free) shuttle service from/to Karuizawa saved us much time. All the onsens (including the one inside the room) are enjoyable. Definitely will visit again.
