"First off, a shout-out for the great location – facing the sea, right next to Mankali, and very close to Imago. The hotel itself is quite large, but a bit dated. There were some basic issues with water and electricity; the shower water pressure fluctuated and sometimes there was no hot water. Breakfast wasn't very good. However, overall it's still decent value for money."

"I’m a late guest arrival at 24th midnight. Then since I wanna take the bus starts from 24th 7.30am at KK sentral, I just try to walk in this hotel to ask them if I can stay. A warm heart madame welcome to me, then the walk-in price a bit than trip.com. This madame told me I can book a next day and check in for “tonight”. She told she can shift it for me. Really touching detail it is. Saving a bit money for us. The room facility a bit aging but everything is good. Expecting next time to visit KK."

Sutera @ Mantanani Island Resort & SPA is located in Pulau Mantanani Besar. Take in the views from a terrace and make use of amenities such as complimentary wireless internet access and an arcade/game room. Additional features at this hotel include tour/ticket assistance and a picnic area. A ferry terminal shuttle is available for a surcharge. Make yourself at home. Bathrooms feature showers, complimentary toiletries, and bidets. Conveniences include safes and desks, and housekeeping is provided daily.

"Many of the positive reviews for this place are likely influenced by the free coconut water offered for writing a review upon check-out. Without any incentives, I'll honestly share my experience. 1. **Pros:** The water quality around Mantanani Island is excellent, and the snorkeling and diving offer stunning views. The staff are friendly, and the island scenery is definitely worth experiencing. 2. **Cons:** The island is swarming with tour groups, and there's a constant stream of elderly people and children, so it's not ideal if you're looking for a peaceful atmosphere. We stayed for three nights, paying over 4,000, and were assigned room 27, which was right next to the staff dormitory. The facilities in the room were very old. Additionally, the adjacent room housed different tour guides every day, and we couldn't see the sea at all from our room. For independent travelers paying this price, getting a room like this is truly unsatisfactory."

Within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Borneo, Gaya Island Resort Kota Kinabalu rests along the coast of Malohom Bay, a natural sanctuary nestled in the hillside of an ancient rainforest with a stunning outline of Mount Kinabalu on the horizon. The resort's architecture respects Sabahan elements; its 120 villas and two-bedroom suite use local materials and blend harmoniously with the natural environment while villa interiors are designed with a contemporary elegance.Yet this is more than just a beautiful beachfront resort in stunning surroundings; with its PURE activities, this is a place for the curious to actively engage or peacefully absorb all Borneo has to offer. Seamlessly integrated within the mangroves is Spa Village, offering a rich tapestry of spa programs that reflect the ancient healing practices of the region while restoring balance to alleviate modern stresses. Dining is a burst of freshness and flavor; exquisite, sensory and sublime. Discoveries, authentic experiences and a sense of intimacy with the natural world all prevail across the land and seascape of this resort, with its youthful vibe and sun-dappled moments, offering travelers and families an escape that is distinctively Borneo. Gaya Island Resort is committed to ecologically-sustainable practices to minimize the carbon footprint within its environment. Therefore, the resort is a walking resort and only minimal motorized vehicles are used for operational purposes.

"Getting there: You need to take the hotel's special speedboat from Megaton Jetty, which takes 10 minutes to reach the hotel's pier. This is charged per person. The hotel has a Southeast Asian resort vibe, with wooden structures that show their age. There are many monkeys 🐒 in the trees outside the room, as well as lizards of all sizes and hornbills. The sand isn't very fine, and the beach isn't large; it's not really big enough for a good walk. There are no other businesses, just the hotel's three restaurants. There are also corals 🪸 not far from the shore. Cleanliness: Average. Ambiance: If you're not too particular about room cleanliness, everything else is pretty good, but I personally care a lot about it. Service: Our luggage was taken directly to our room. When we were leaving, we had to depart at 6 AM, and they prepared breakfast for us – two large bags with fruit, bread, coffee, and milk. We mentioned that the shrimp was delicious but found some other dishes hard to get used to, so the chef specially prepared a delicious plate of shrimp just for us and brought it to our table."

Guests can choose from the Garden Wing, ideal for families and friends with tranquil, nature-inspired rooms, or indulge in the Ocean Wing, where spacious suites feature private outdoor bathtubs, large balconies, and exclusive access to an outdoor jacuzzi. With over 60 recreational activities, from watersports and horse riding along the beach to guided rainforest treks, birdwatching, and wildlife encounters, adventure awaits at every turn. Families are well cared for with dedicated kids’ programs, while couples and adults can savour the romance of spectacular sunset views over the South China Sea, best enjoyed with cocktails at the beachside Sampan Bar. Culinary journeys span across six dining venues, including Japanese teppanyaki at Kozan, authentic Malaysian cuisine at Tepi Laut, Italian-inspired grills at Oceano, and more—ensuring every meal is memorable. Just 40 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Shangri-La Rasa Ria is the ultimate escape into nature, adventure, and luxury.

"This time I brought my family and we encountered heavy rain (luckily, we still enjoyed the most beautiful sunset in the evening). There was a 'fiasco' on the beach (the hotel's quick and professional handling made us feel even more at ease to relax and play), and a 'four-legged intruder' in the pool (the hotel swiftly caught and relocated it). We saw little squirrels, stepped on live clams, admired the full moon on the 16th, and celebrated my father's birthday, which was all arranged by the hotel. RAINA's thoughtful advice about the road construction saved us from missing our flight, and so much more. If you're coming to Kota Kinabalu for a sunset holiday and have the budget, come to Shangri-La Rasa Ria. And if you ever meet RAINA again, just hand all your troubles over to her! ☺"

Overall good stay. My room came with a relax chair that fits properly for watching tv or reading"

"How do I put it? It wasn't particularly outstanding. I was originally torn between the Hyatt Centric and The Magellan Sutera, but once I arrived, I realized the Marriott is essentially in the middle ground between the two, both in terms of location and hotel type. The Hyatt Centric is downtown with numerous eateries right downstairs, while The Magellan Sutera is more of a secluded beach resort. The Marriott is in between, so it doesn't quite excel at either. It's true that there are motorcycles revving down the street if you have a city view, but it didn't really affect my sleep. It's also under the flight path, but there weren't many planes at night. To the south, there's a Bataras supermarket, and their pomelos are highly recommended this season. Further south is Imago. The area directly downstairs from the hotel itself is a bit desolate. The infinity pool on the 8th floor is decent, but there are no changing rooms."

"Great location since the night market and sunday market are right on the doorstep. The room was clean, bathroom clean, plenty of hot water and double windows meant it was quiet. Towels are worn out and TV is old. Front desk and doorman are helpful and courteous. The room is too dark during the day. I would stay again."

"Overall, it was decent, especially having a balcony right by the pool, which was great, and the service attitude was also very good. However, the main issues were, first, the breakfast was terrible. I find it hard to accept that a hotel costing eight or nine hundred yuan a night would offer such a limited selection of food, just a small row of options. Secondly, the metal plate on the door could easily scratch your arm when opening it. The soundproofing was also poor; you could hear noise from other guest rooms and music from the swimming pool area."

Three days, two nights, and every day brought a new kind of 'excitement.' Day one, the air conditioning didn't work, there were tons of mosquitoes, and the shower only had cold water. The only decent thing for dinner was the fried shrimp, which disappeared in seconds, and the few other dishes available were practically snatched away. It felt like a refugee experience. Day two, we got a different room. After swimming, I went back to shower, and there was no water, then cold water, then extremely hot water, constantly cycling. The water pressure was also incredibly low; I almost lost my mind trying to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. That night, it was very windy, and there was a lot of noise outside, as if something wasn't properly secured. On the third day, as we were checking out, our luggage was mistakenly taken by a staff member and given to other guests. It was only returned after the other guests realized the error. Our luggage was perfectly fine in the restaurant; how dare you just take it away? Do you have any basic management sense? Of course, the environment is nice, that's the only highlight. Given how expensive it was during Chinese New Year, you should provide a service level that matches the price. The buffet was cafeteria-standard, and we still had to fight for food. Are you not ashamed?

I stayed in Room 3121 (superior king). Cons - The room door can sometimes be difficult to open. You need to tap the key card, turn the handle, and push the door slightly harder than usual. The same issue occasionally occurs when opening the door from inside. - The hotel's WiFi signal does not reach the room. - An iron is not provided in the room. - The room door is only moderately soundproof (around 60%), so noise from outside can still be heard. - A laundry bag is not provided. Pros - The room rate is very affordable and reasonable for the condition and facilities offered by the hotel. - The room is very spacious and comfortable. - Five clothes hangers are provided. - A hair dryer is available. - Basic toiletries provided include shampoo, body wash, and a shower cap. - The TV offers five channels. - Two complimentary bottles of drinking water are provided. - A kettle, two sets of coffee and tea, along with sugar and creamer, are available. - Two mugs and spoons are provided. - The air conditioning works well and keeps the room very cool. - Basement parking is available. Access is through the side of the Tang Dynasty Hotel lobby. The parking system is cashless and uses number plate recognition. Inform the TD Plaza Hotel lobby staff of your vehicle registration number, and they will register it. Each exit is charged at a special rate of RM2 when you tap your bank card. - The hotel's location is excellent. Imago Shopping Mall is within walking distance (10min +-) - Nearby amenities include Bataras Supermarket, Orange Market, KFC, Papa's, and Golden Fish. - There is also a night market beside the building. - For seafood lovers, Anjung Senja is located behind Wawasan Plaza. - Beautiful sunset views can be enjoyed from the Anjung Senja area all the way to the back of Marriott Hotel. - For those who enjoy brisk walking, jogging, or running, there is a dedicated pedestrian and cycling path stretching from Anjung Senja towards the Tanjung Aru junction.

Overall, the hotel is good, especially because of its convenient location near a shopping mall, making it easy to purchase daily necessities and other items. The breakfast café is spacious and offers a wide variety of food choices. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. While the breakfast selection is extensive, the taste of the food was somewhat disappointing and could be enhanced. In addition, the cleanliness of the room needs more attention. The floor felt dusty, as if it had not been properly swept or vacuumed. Guests who are not comfortable wearing the hotel slippers may notice the dust more easily. With improvements to room cleanliness and food quality, the overall guest experience would be much better.

Extremely satisfied! The lovely lady at the front desk upgraded our room, and her service was fantastic – she even spoke Chinese and answered all our questions. Every time we took a taxi in, they'd check our booking information, which made us feel very safe. The breakfast buffet was also very rich and diverse, and the kids had a great time. The lifeguard at the pool was also very responsible, which gave us peace of mind. The sunset was also beautiful, with few people around, so it wasn't crowded. Highly recommend!

The water in the hotel's area is heavily polluted; it's so dirty that snorkeling is completely out of the question! The front desk staff were very perfunctory with guest requests and didn't follow through on promises. In the morning, we requested a private boat tour for island hopping and snorkeling. We discussed the time and itinerary with the dive center staff and finalized the price with the front desk. We even altered our subsequent travel plans for this. However, by 4 PM, we still hadn't received confirmation. When we called the front desk, they told us they couldn't arrange it. We asked several people, and got different explanations: first they said there were no boats, then that other guests had already been arranged for island hopping, and then that there would be a storm the next day (which turned out to be perfectly calm). I suggest the hotel improve its island hopping service. For those looking to dive, definitely don't consider this hotel! Also, the beach is incredibly tiny, barely palm-sized!

I had an amazing experience at this hotel. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, expect the toilet is sharing and it's very dirty!. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The location was perfect, and the view from my room was absolutely stunning — one of the highlights of my stay. Everything about this hotel felt high-quality, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

Our room was on the second floor (with a ground floor entrance), and the king room was about 3-5 square meters smaller than the twin room. The style is similar to hotels in China that are 30-40 years old, but the location is excellent. Pros: They offer free luggage storage for guests; it's right opposite Suria mall and behind Gaya Street, so you'll have no trouble finding food and shopping; the concierge was very friendly, opening doors and greeting us proactively; the in-room hardware was well-maintained and clean, with no strange odors, and the bedding was clean with a fresh laundry scent! Cons: The soundproofing needs improvement. We could hear sports cars and motorcycles passing by, generating 20-40 decibels of noise about every ten minutes. We only got proper sleep late at night when traffic died down. The shower facilities are also quite old; the glass door didn't effectively prevent water from spilling out of the shower area, and the showerhead holder made it difficult to adjust the angle of the showerhead. Overall: Clean! Convenient! Great value for money! If you're very sensitive to noise, either bring earplugs or request a room on the opposite side, closer to the main entrance and facing the smaller road, instead of one facing the main road and Suria.

whats very good: Staff Service Excellent Easy access - down ladder - to sea whats good: good WiFi signal Rooms, Main Area, Jetty food - breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner - too much actually in-room fridge quiet rooms** 3 meals + tea included in-room snacks and soft drinks included what could improve: we expected total privacy - vendors in outboard motorboats and sampans kept approaching our unit when they see us sitting on the deck or swimming; they hassle us into buying stuff - from coconuts to live lobsters - and don't leave easily - we weren't interested in as we have meals and tea covered in our package. a boat with 2 sampans in tow always directly in front of our unit - eventhough approx 500-600 meters away - made us feel uncomfortable and invading our privacy No Emergency Protocols in place 7.9 or 8.2 earthquake with epicentre in Mindanao - across the Sulu Sea - there was no information or updates from staff on the situation - we were having breakfast when we felt the main area swaying when there were no waves we only got news on our mobile when back in the room we delayed our morning swim and went into water around 9.50 am. Had a few very strong waves hitting us. Asked a passing staff regarding the quake, he said no problems. after the swim we got news on our mobile that there was a Tsunami warning out and 0.4m wave could be hitting the shores of Semporna, Tawau and few other coastal cities of Eastern Sabah between 9.30am and 12.30pm 🤷🏾♂️ thankfully we survived to be able to write this.
