The bedding was clean and comfortable! There were plenty of restrooms, which is great for families with multiple people – no waiting around! The common areas were also spotless. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent, just a 10-15 minute ride to the city center. It's truly fantastic! The price was also reasonable ☺️ A superb hotel!
The room was clean. The facilities were average, but the accommodation was fine. A bus to the ski resort was arranged. The breakfast was average. But the breakfast in New Zealand hotels is average. Don't expect too much. Compared with the ones in China, the staff in the small town here are very friendly. I feel comfortable every day.
This was the first place I stayed when I arrived in NZ for my working holiday. It's very centrally located, the staff were incredibly friendly, and it was a fantastic place to stay.
Check in time is before 8 pm, the front desk will close the door late, but the door lock key will be placed in the mailbox, and it is convenient to check in. But wifi must find the front desk to get the code, resulting in no wifi use that night.
I have previously stayed in this chain of pod hotels and the one up in Auckland was fantastic and I gave a raving review. Perhaps I got these guys on a bad day but I really felt the service had dropped significantly since my First visit a year and a half ago in Auckland.
The main concern I had was the bathroom was pretty disgusting and something that I would definitely not use. You can see the reasons why in the photos that I will post. Mainly there was here all around the place and a lot of dropped water on the floor old products just in the corner even if they were advertise as free it looked disgusting and could be done in a much clean hygienic way. Just needs a bit more quality management in this area.
perhaps I got them at the end of the weekend with low interest in maintaining clean bathrooms but this was just not good.
My second gripe or concern was that inside the pod the electronics of the light and fan were not visible and I took at least 15 minutes to figure out how to actually turn on off the lights and this was only done eventually by accident by me accidentally touching the panel as the back light of the panel was not functioning therefore it was not easy to determine where to turn the light on and off.
My last gripe was that the door needs to be more effectively managed because it still slamming every time someone goes in and Out likely waking everyone in the pods certainly Juan understands in this type of accommodation you have to put up with a bit of noise but this was a little bit out there at 6 am 7 am in the morning.
So overall, a little disappointed, but for the price point it served its purpose.
Suitable for taking children. Our room sleeps 5 people, 3 single beds and 1 double bed. There is a kitchen in the room, the pots and pans are all complete, and there is a refrigerator for your own simple dishes. The hotel is very close to the city centre. Remember to bring toiletries, shower gel, shampoo.
The family room is huge! The beds can fit 2 adults and 4 children (if the hotel allows). We used this as a one night hotel stay before heading to the airport in the morning. The staff kindly helped my children check in and bring our numerous luggage to the room because my husband and I had to rush to Hertz to drop off the car. Sorry we didn’t tip as we didn’t know who you were! But thank you! We really should’ve stayed one more night and eaten at the 4.5 star google rated restaurant in the hotel. Can walk to shops + major car drop off. Apx NZD$30 Uber ride to airport!
You need to provide better information about parking. The hotel only offers valet parking, though other paid parking is available nearby.
Service at breakfast was not great. No one greeted me or explained that there were options. No prices were available before dining. I had one bagel and a fruit bowl (no drinks) and my bill was $28. That's really steep! I'll go to a cafe next time.
Traveling with friends, we booked four rooms. They were clean, hygienic, and quite new. The lobby is small, and we didn't book breakfast so I can't comment on that. The rooms are a bit like a domestic Atour or All Seasons hotel, which is perfectly fine. The price was also very reasonable, especially since we used a room voucher, making it a great deal.

LLaisipaermeiduokexuhuangThe front desk at this place is open quite late, and it's a large hostel with lots of people. It meets basic needs, but overall, it's just so-so.
Christchurch city center isn't very big; you can explore it quickly. If it rains, head to the museum; if the weather's good, enjoy more outdoor activities.
GGuest UserI was a bit disappointed. I was expecting this to be a 5 star place, but there were a lot of things that were definitely not 5 stars. The robes were grey and didn't cover bigger people. One of them had pilling all over it, I didn't want to even wear it. The bathroom door squeaked loudly, so if one person got up to the toilet in the middle of the night, it woke the other person up. There were instructions on how to use the spa bath, but not on how to put the plug in. It didn't just plug in normally. We weren't able to use it on our first night which was very frustrating as it was one of our main attractions. I rang housekeeping the next day. Someone came and had a look and said that you had to turn a know on the side of the spa, how would anyone know that? The lock on the door to outside was broken and a small slide lock had been put on. Why not fix the main lock? I used the toilets to the side of the library and when I washed my hands, the tap was all loose and wobbled round. All these things are little but show that the lodge needs to have things fixed or updated. For $300 per night, you expect the best. The worse thing was on our last morning, we got to breakfast about 8:45, the restaurant closes at 9:30 am. There was continental and scrambled eggs and bacon. At about 9:00 am they stopped bringing out anymore bread to toast. No more croissants, eggs or bacon were brought out. There were about 6 tables with guests and everyone kept going up and checking, but they didn't refill. People were saying, they must have run out of food! But for some reason the waiter kept lifting the lids to the egg and bacon to see what was in there, but of course there was nothing as he hadn't refilled it and he was the only waiter!! I was really disappointed and wouldn't recommend it, unless you are getting a really good discount.
GGuest UserI am writing to formally express my profound disappointment and dissatisfaction with the service provided by the Crowne Plaza hotel in Christchurch, New Zealand. My booking was for 5 rooms to accommodate a group of 9 family and friends, including young children and elderly members.
Understanding that our group had specific needs, I proactively contacted the hotel in advance via email to politely request the possibility of an early check-in.
The hotel’s response was both disappointing and unreasonable. They stated that an early check-in was not possible and suggested that if we wanted rooms available upon our arrival, we should book and pay for an additional night for the previous day. This response felt exploitative, implying that rooms were available but only for an additional charge, rather than as a gesture of goodwill or customer care.
Accepting this, we adjusted our plans and arrived at the hotel after 3:00 PM, the official check-in time. To our great frustration, none of our five rooms were ready. The first room was only made available at 3:30 PM, and the last room was not provided until 4:30 PM—a full 90 minutes after the guaranteed check-in time. This caused significant inconvenience, discomfort, and stress for our group, especially given the presence of young children and elderly individuals who were tired after travel.
As a loyal customer of the IHG brand who has stayed at their properties across Asia, I have always trusted their standards of hospitality. Unfortunately, this experience at the Crowne Plaza Christchurch represents the worst service I have ever encountered from IHG. The combination of an unaccommodating and profit-driven response to a reasonable request, followed by a failure to meet even the basic check-in commitment, reflects poorly on both the hotel and Trip.com as the booking agent.

FFayreWe are couple with a 5 year old girl. We paid SGD697.85 (Singapore dollar) for staying 2 nights in this “2 bedroom apartment” as stated.
3 points here to explain the terrible experience.
1. tv remote is not working. I don’t mind the owner making excuse like “ replied customer’s message within 20mins…..” but they actually took 29mins to reply (19:10 till 19:39). In fact, they didn’t manage to change the tv remote in the end. So I stayed 2 nights without using the TV!
2.there is no clear and obvious description that this “2 bedroom apartment” is actually an adjoining unit which means when u walked into the front door then there are 2 doors link to split parts of the apartment. The problem of adjoining units are thin walls are used to split the apartment into 2 small units. When u stay in this kind of apartment, u have to endure all kind of noises from whoever staying in neighboring rooms. We had 2 days enduring guesting from the other room shouting, slamming the door, kids screaming like crazy both early in the morning and afternoon!
3. When I reflect this bad experience with trip.com customer service, this hotel responded like they have no fault at all and played with words. This attitude makes us feel like being fooled. We paid money to expect to stay in an apartment with privacy and quiet environment but indeed we had such a bad experience!
In this market, if it’s an adjoining unit, they should not charge at the rate as if it’s an entire apartment.
I’m alright that they rejected to refund the extra amount they charged. Just have to reflect the facts in the review.
Thanks.
KKuishouThe room was very clean, and the facilities were standard for a four or five-star hotel, with a separate shower and toilet. The bed was also quite spacious. The breakfast was reasonably rich, and you could order omelets separately. The hotel is extremely close to the terminal; you can reach it right after exiting. Outside, there's a car rental company parking lot, which is very convenient if you're renting a car because you can park there and avoid paying hotel parking fees. Within a 10-minute walk, there's a commercial complex with restaurants and a supermarket. It's a very convenient place to stay when arriving in Christchurch.
CCitizen of The World - Veni, Vidi, ViciExcellent location. The reception was friendly and helpful. Love the bsthroom that comes with heater, powerful shower, and even have a heated bar to warm the towels and dry your wears if needed. Highly recommended.
Ffairy-smileThe location is superb, directly opposite the cathedral. It's a shame, however, that the cathedral is still undergoing renovations and seems several years away from completion. On the bright side, the beautiful Cardboard Cathedral is within easy walking distance. Just outside the entrance, there's a beautiful library with a cafe – a perfect spot for both intellectual nourishment and a coffee or snack. Riverside Market is also very close, easily walkable, and features a wide array of restaurants and bars. While New World supermarket and Chemist Warehouse are a bit further away, they are still within a manageable walking distance, and we opted to walk there. The staff were exceptionally warm and professional. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and the bathrooms featured a convenient wet/dry separation. Luggage storage was also available. Overall, this was, without a doubt, the best value-for-money hotel we stayed at during our entire South Island New Zealand trip.
CChak Heng AndrewThis hotel stay was an absolute delight, offering the perfect blend of convenience, stunning views, and high-quality amenities. The location right by the waterfront was simply breathtaking, and the proximity to the whale watching center was an added bonus.
While the unit was on the second floor, which required carrying our luggage upstairs, the view from the elevated position was well worth it. There was also the option of requesting a ground floor unit if stairs are a concern.
The check-in and check-out process was a breeze, with clear instructions provided and a designated key return box for added convenience. Having an assigned parking space just outside the unit was also a thoughtful touch.
But the true highlight of this hotel stay was the shower. The water pressure and temperature control were absolutely perfect, making for a luxurious and refreshing experience. And being able to watch the sunrise from the unit was the icing on the cake.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a tranquil, waterfront retreat with top-notch amenities and stunning views. The combination of the convenient location, well-appointed unit, and exceptional shower made this an unforgettable stay.
