Troutbeck Inn was a nice surprise, given how many properties in Zimbabwe have gone into decay since I was last here in 1988. The hotel has been well maintained and the facilities were in very good condition. The only unfortunate (out of the hotels control) was that there had been a lot of fires in the Nyanga area. This created a lot of smoke and haze which affected the otherwise spectacular views and scenery. I would recommend checking on this before heading to Nyanga if you want to see it at it's best. The fire in the bar was disappointing because they were using wet wood which created a lot of smoke and very little heat. If the hotel used dry wood the bar would be significantly better. The hotel room was very comfortable and the shower was amazing.
