Take you through an open-air museum of Danish history and experience small town life from the 18th century to the present. It is suitable for family fun.
Marselisborg Deer Park
If you have enough time, I recommend you to relax at Marselisborg Deer Park on the outskirts of the city! You can get up close and personal with the cute Danish deer, and you don’t need to pay for tickets or anything, the park is open to the public for free!

Trip to Aarhus 🇩🇰
It was a trip to Aarhus, Denmark. Just want to share my itinerary that I’d highly recommend🙌
I started the day at the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, where I explored the vibrant contemporary art exhibits. The highlight for me was the "Your Rainbow Panorama," a colorful circular walkway offering panoramic views of the city. It's a perfect spot for both art lovers and photographers 📸
📍 Aros Allé 2, 8000 Aarhus
💰 Around 160 DKK for adults.
I loved wandering through Den Gamle By, an open-air museum that takes you back in time to the 16th to 20th centuries. Walking through the cobblestone streets and historical buildings was like stepping into a different era. I also recommend visiting the bakeries for a taste of traditional Danish pastries 🥐
📍Viborgvej 2, 8000 Aarhus
💰Around 150 DKK for adults.
If you are looking for somewhere good for dinner, I would suggest you to try Mefist. It’s is a seafood restaurant where I had some of the best mussels I’ve ever tasted. The atmosphere is relaxed and charming, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.
📍 Volden 28, 8000 Aarhus
💰 250-400 DKK per person.
I also spent a tranquil morning at the Aarhus Botanical Garden. It's a beautiful spot with diverse plant collections and a greenhouse that showcases plants from around the world. A perfect place for a morning stroll or a picnic 💐
📍Møllevejen 10, 8000 Aarhus

I also explored the Moesgaard Museum and found it fascinating, especially for those interested in archaeology and anthropology. The exhibitions on Viking culture and ancient Denmark were particularly captivating.
📍 Moesgård Allé 15, 8270 Højbjerg

For dinner, I’d recommend Restaurant Substans, a Michelin-starred restaurant where I had an unforgettable dining experience. The tasting menu focuses on local, organic ingredients, and every dish was a work of art 💯

💰 700-1,200 DKK per person.
I also took a leisurely morning walk around the grounds of Marselisborg Palace, the summer residence of the Danish royal family. Although the palace itself isn't open to the public, the surrounding gardens are a lovely place to relax.

Chuyện của Xíu
Aarhus is a city in Denmark on the Jutland peninsula’s east coast. Den Gamle By is its old town open-air museum, with centuries-old timbered houses. Nearby are the greenhouses of the Aarhus Botanical Garden. In the center, the multistory ARoS art museum shows global contemporary works. The underground Viking Museum explores early local history. Nearby, Aarhus Cathedral has restored 14th- to 16th-century frescoes.
The Aarhus Region is where you will find Aarhus, second city in Denmark, the Lake District, Søhøjlandet, with its magnificent woodlands, lakes, and soaring hills, the historical, medieval town of Viborg, and the old market town of Randers on the banks of Gudenåen, not to mention Djursland, with great attractions lined up like pearls on a string.
Second city but not second best
When we say this, we say it as a compliment – Aarhus is tiny! It’s a historic city that remarkably feels like one cosy neighbourhood, where all of the biggest sights and attractions really are within walking distance of each other. (We promise.) Despite this local feel, Aarhus has a few distinct and exciting districts which each give you a different kind of city break experience. It just means you’ll be able to explore them all in one visit!

The Women’s Museum in Aarhus is a fascinating and meaningful place to visit. Located in a historic building in the city center, the museum offers thoughtful exhibitions about women’s lives, gender equality, and social change in Denmark. I was impressed by how interactive and engaging the displays are, combining personal stories, historical artifacts, and modern perspectives. The exhibitions are well-organized and easy to follow, even for visitors who are not deeply familiar with Danish history.

Old Town Magic🧱
#europetrip
The Old Town in Aarhus is one of the most fascinating museums I have ever visited. This open-air museum brings Danish history to life with beautifully preserved historic buildings relocated from different parts of the country. Walking through the cobblestone streets truly feels like traveling back in time. Each house is carefully furnished to reflect daily life from different historical periods.
I especially enjoyed how the museum covers multiple eras, from the 18th century to the 1970s, allowing visitors to experience changing lifestyles and traditions. The staff dressed in period costumes add authenticity and are happy to share stories about the past. Small shops, bakeries, and workshops make the experience even more immersive.

Golden Lake Loop🌅
#europetrip
The Infinite Bridge in Aarhus is a unique and peaceful place to visit. This circular wooden pier stretches out into the sea, creating the feeling of walking in a continuous loop with no beginning or end. I really enjoyed strolling along the smooth wooden path while listening to the gentle sound of waves beneath my feet. The design is simple yet artistic, blending beautifully with the natural surroundings.
It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists. Some people come here for a refreshing swim, while others sit quietly and enjoy the sea breeze. The views are especially stunning at sunset, when the sky and water reflect warm golden colors. It’s also a great location for photography because the circular shape makes every angle interesting.

Greenhouses
#europetrip
The Greenhouses in the Botanical Garden in Aarhus are a wonderful and relaxing place to explore. The complex features several climate zones, allowing visitors to experience tropical rainforests, desert landscapes, and Nordic plants all in one visit. I loved walking through the warm, humid tropical dome filled with lush greenery, colorful flowers, and even small waterfalls. It truly feels like stepping into another world.
The desert greenhouse is equally impressive, with tall cacti and unique succulents displayed in a bright, open space. Everything is clearly labeled, making it both educational and enjoyable. The paths are well designed, and there are plenty of benches to sit and take in the surroundings.

Viking Relics Unveiled⚡
#europetrip
The Viking Museum in Aarhus is a small but fascinating hidden gem right in the city center. Located underground beneath Nordea Bank, the museum showcases archaeological remains from the Viking Age, including original structures and artifacts discovered during excavations. Walking through the dimly lit exhibition area feels like stepping back in time. I was impressed by how well the remains are preserved and how clearly the information panels explain daily life in the Viking settlement of Aros.
Although the museum is not very large, it is thoughtfully arranged and easy to explore within an hour. The displays give a vivid picture of trade, craftsmanship, and community life during the Viking period. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, ready to answer questions.

Modern Vibes Only✨
#europetrip
Endless Connection in Aarhus is a simple yet unforgettable experience. This circular wooden pier stretches gracefully into the sea, creating a peaceful space where visitors can walk, sit, and enjoy the surrounding views. I loved how the design blends naturally with the coastline while still feeling modern and artistic. Walking along the curved path gives you a sense of calm, especially with the sound of waves and fresh sea breeze all around. It’s a perfect spot for photos, particularly at sunset when the sky reflects beautifully on the water. Many locals come here to swim, relax, or just watch the horizon, which adds to its authentic atmosphere. Even though it’s minimal in structure, the feeling it creates is powerful and memorable. Endless Connection truly lives up to its name, offering a quiet connection between land, sea, and sky.

Aarhus - 'the city of smiles' lives up to its name!
I stopped in Aarhus, Denmark's second largest city, on my way home from Aalborg on a recent trip, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. The city truly earns its nickname — everywhere I turned, there was charm, character, and a little magic. Here's why Aarhus should be on your list:
⛪ The most wonderful churches and cathedrals
🏘️ Beautifully hidden cobbled streets
🍽️🍷 The most varied and vibrant food and drink scene
🤫 A delightfully relaxed city
🥾 Easy and compact to navigate on foot
📷 I wandered down the fairytale-like Møllestien, with its cobblestone street and colourful old houses. Bicycles leant against the wall, it created some fantastic photography (Picture 1).
🏬 Onto Strøget, the buzzing pedestrian street where the friendliest locals and visitors blend effortlessly.
⛪ Along the way, I passed the Catholic Church of Our Lady, a peaceful, beautiful corner of the city that felt like a step back in time (Picture 2).
🌊 I also passed by the Aarhus Cathedral, an imposing and elegant piece of history right in the heart of the city and it's just close by the Aarhus Å (or Aarhus River, Picture 3).
🌜 But the real surprise came after sunset — I returned to the Catholic Church of Our Lady and was surprised too see it lit up brilliantly against the backdrop of the night sky. The contrast of light and shadow was absolutely breathtaking, a moment that made me stop and just take it all in (Picture 4).
🇩🇰 Aarhus might be called the City of Smiles, but it left me with wide eyes and a full heart. I've been before, so it was lovely to be back. It's a city that will always bring a smile to my face for it's uniqueness - it's my city of smiles, that's for sure!
🛌 Somewhere to stay
Cabinn Aarhus - it's modelled on ferry cabins so think budget friendly cosy condos, and it's a stone's throw from the shopping quarters
🍽️ Something to eat
Eat like a local and try a Smørrebrød (an open faced rye bread sandwich) for a deliciously light lunch

🌀 Museum Ovartaci – A Journey Into the Mind’s Imagination
#europetrip
Museum Ovartaci stands out as one of Denmark’s most intriguing cultural spaces, dedicated to the intersection between art, psychology, and the human experience. Located in Aarhus, the museum explores mental health history through deeply personal artworks created by psychiatric patients—most famously by Ovartaci, whose dreamlike figures and imaginative worlds lend the museum its name.
Walking through the galleries feels like entering a parallel realm of raw creativity. The pieces are expressive, unconventional, and often haunting in their honesty. Rather than presenting mental illness through clinical explanations, the museum lets the art speak for itself—revealing emotion, struggle, humour, and inner universes through sculptures, paintings, and installations. The result is a rare level of intimacy that challenges the boundaries between “outsider art” and mainstream artistic expression.
The museum also offers thoughtful insights into the evolution of psychiatric care in Denmark, displaying historical objects and narratives with sensitivity and depth. It’s a place that encourages reflection—on mental health, society’s definitions of normality, and the power of art as a form of healing and identity. For travellers seeking something unexpected and profoundly human, Museum Ovartaci is an unforgettable stop.

Shopping on Strøget Street in Denmark
Shopping on Strøget Street in Denmark was an incredibly fun and exciting experience. The cobblestone streets, characteristic of Europe, are lined with stylish boutiques, cafes, and fashion brands, making just walking along the street a delightful experience. There were plenty of Nordic design goods and cute souvenirs that I couldn't resist picking up. Street performers playing music added to the lively and cheerful atmosphere of the entire area. It was a wonderful street where you could enjoy both shopping and strolling around.
