Flower Viewing in the Magic City | Ginkgo Tree | Holy Trinity Church Every year when the ginkgo tree turns yellow, I always have to come. This year, however, is a bit different. Looking through the familiar iron gate, the ginkgo tree beside the church always presses its layers of leaves low, its golden posture slightly leaning forward, as if gazing down at the brilliant ground below. At that time, the church’s brick walls, the golden canopy of the ginkgo, and the golden leaves covering the path formed a complete autumn scene, attracting countless photographers year after year who waited here just to capture that fleeting light and shadow. This year, the church renovation is complete. The wall has been replaced with a transparent wrought iron fence, and the newly refurbished church finally reveals its former glory—the spire pointing straight to the clear autumn sky, stained glass shimmering in the sunlight. The 150-year-old ginkgo tree was transplanted outside the wall; perhaps weakened, its branches are much sparser. Although a few small ginkgo trees were added as companions, it ultimately lost its former lushness. The newly paved path winds through, with stone slabs engraved with the changes of this place over the past century. Supporting greenery, seasonal flowers, resting benches, and elegant landscape installations have turned this place into a delicate garden. Standing outside the fence, looking at the old ginkgo tree that was moved out, it is farther from the church and can no longer lean its branches lightly against the wall. The Sheraton Addis proved to be an outstanding hotel. It is perched on a gentle slope offering views of parts of Addis. The approach to the hotel from the side is truly impressive. The hotel's quality and ambiance surpassed my expectations. Addis and Ethiopia feature nice areas but also have their rough patches. The Sheraton ensures you'll feel well cared for during your visit. The doormen outside and reception staff were consistently helpful. Every dining venue we tried was excellent. The food and drinks, whether coffee or wine, were exceptional. Our favorite spot was the Stagioni Italian Restaurant, where we enjoyed dinner with a scenic view overlooking Addis Ababa's illuminated skyline. We sampled the local Ethiopian wine, Castel Rift Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon, which we found delightful and more affordable compared to French or South African imports. We also enjoyed drinks and snacks before exploring the city at the Fountain Court bar in the lounge. Although we booked tours in advance, we likely could have arranged them at the Sheraton. We felt safe and encountered no issues with noise or crowds. On Saturday night, it was popular with lively groups of locals enjoying the hotel's charm.

If you are searching for something chic and luxurious to stay at while your trip to Addis Ababa there cannot be anything better there then Sheraton hotel. The area around is huge and it’s like another city itself. We arrived on weekends and there was a wedding celebration there with so many beautiful decorations and guests. Teaching the place is easy by the taxi - the price for taxi is very affordable there and you can also order a transfer service from the hotel, but it will be more expensive of course. The room was perfectly designed and clean with the pool view. There are bars and restaurants and spa on the territory of the hotel. Also there is a jogging route around and gym as well. At first when you enter you may compare it to the other historical museums you have already been to and this one will seem very modest and simple to you. A wonderful place to go out and enjoy the beautiful area. Friendship park is located very conveniently, there is a parking lot if needed and the entrance fee is very cheap, just 110 byr. One of the best hotels in Addis Ababa, if even not the best one, very conveniently located in the city. The staff is super helpful and polite, the room is extremely clean and having everything you need, the view from the balcony is just stunning. Breakfast is super delicious, lounge area is cozy with tasty food. The pool area is big and so comfy. Spa with jacuzzi is free for the hotel guests, you only need to pay for massage if needed. Note: advance reservations is needed, we arrived on Sunday at 4 pm and the massage was fully booked for this day. They also have a jogging route marked with the sign and very good outdoor gym.
