Summer is here 😎
If you are heading north from Iloilo City, you may want to check out Hilltop, located at Culasi, Ajuy, Iloilo. Just approximately 70 kilometers, an hour and 30 minutes ride from the city. You will feel relaxed and stress free with the ocean view and nearby islets from where you stand in the hilltop. They serve snacks and meals all day. We ordered cheesy fries and nachos that day and we were surprised by the servings; it can be shared by more or less 4 persons. Definitely worth the price. Entrance fee is just 20php, already good for all day access. Bikers and riders can consider having a pitstop here as the relaxing ocean breeze can help give them a soothing relaxation.
Ajuy: The Charm of Black Sand Beaches and Giant Cliffside Caves.
Ajuy, a small fishing village on the west coast of Fuerteventura, is a destination that will make you fall in love with the raw and exotic beauty of nature.
3 Must-Do's When Visiting
Pitch-Black Sand Beach (Playa de Ajuy): A sparkling beach formed by volcanic rocks, beautifully contrasting with the white crests of crashing waves and the deep indigo sea. Although the currents are too strong for swimming, simply sitting and listening to the waves crash against the shore offers an unmatched sense of tranquility.
Cliffside Walkway: A pale yellow limestone path stretching along the coastline. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, making every angle a perfect photo op.
Mysterious Caves (Cuevas de Ajuy): The ultimate highlight at the end of the trail. These massive, prehistoric seaside caves reveal the geological origins of the island, radiating a majestic and mystical vibe.
The village itself is petite and incredibly charming, featuring whitewashed houses with vibrant blue doors. After exploring the caves to your heart's content, we highly recommend stopping by a beachfront restaurant. Order some freshly grilled fish paired with salted boiled potatoes and local dipping sauce, and just sit back to soak in the ocean view.
Ajuy is the perfect blend of mystery and the slow-paced life. If you love raw, unfiltered nature, this is a spot you absolutely have to check off your bucket list.
