#gohiking This is a natural reserve is with paved trails .Entry costs $45 for foreigners and offers different trails. You can spend an entire day there, enjoy the exhibits, cafeterias and trails. The waterfall trails are safe with paved trails, steps and guardrails. It is a long climb down and up, so is not good for small children or if you have difficulties climbing stairs. There are a few overlooks/rest stops. Overall I enjoyed it very much and would go back if I have the chance to visit Costa Rica again

La Paz Waterfall Gardens Natural Park is one of the most famous tours for tourists in Costa Rica, located only a few hours from San Jose (and 1 hour away from airport). They offer accommodation, restaurants services or just one-day hiking trip into the rainforest and their animal sanctuary. Remember zoos were banned in Costa Rica years ago, only few sanctuaries are open to public as rehabilitation center for many wild animals. La Paz trails includes 5 different waterfalls, a small lake, birds 🐦 , butterflies 🦋 , snakes 🐍 , monkeys 🐵, hummingbirds, orchid station, insects, frogs 🐸 and few jungle cats, like jaguar, ocelots and more 🐆 . Remember to carry a jacket and probably raincoat when you visit, either in summer or rainy season. Temperature in rainforest is always a bit chilly and you will definitely get wet around the waterfalls trails. Carry comfortable shoes, this hike can be exhausting. Outside the gardens, few minutes into the main road (route 126), you can watch the amazing La Paz waterfall that falls. The waterfall is 37m height. This waterfall is also very near Poas volcano 🌋, if you want to spend the night in the gardens you can continue your trip next day to hike around the Poas Volcano National Park, or just visit the crater. The Rubber Lagoon (Laguna de Hule) is located in the National Wildlife Refuge Bosque Alegre, near the Poas volcano and La Paz waterfall. Be aware this area has no structure or entrance fee, as it isn’t a national park. In the lagoon entrance, you find a delicious restaurant to enjoy breakfast and keep yourself strong for all the energy and calories you’ll definitely burn next. For full Costa Rican experience, go for a nice pinto with egg, meat, sour cream and coffee. Now, you’re ready!! First, you are required to descend 500m to the base of the lagoon, this could take around one hour. Additional 2-3 hours to go around the lagoon, find the perfect spot to eat, enjoy your surroundings and even go for a swim! Let me warn you, water might be warm but area in general is cold. However, a trip I have repeated a few times. This is a great spot for bird-watching. Some people mentions this could be an amazing area for kayaking, if you are willing to carry your kayak in a vertical and difficult trek. This location is mostly unknown, therefore has high touristic potential without the crowds you can find in many national parks in Costa Rica. Scenery along the trekking paths is amazing. Be prepared to walk inside the river, to get yourself covered in mud, and don’t forget your waterproof jacket. The adventure only picked up steam as I made my way to La Fortuna to hike near the iconic Arenal Volcano. Trekking across ancient lava flows from historic eruptions while staring up at the perfectly symmetrical, massive volcanic cone offered breathtaking views of Arenal Lake and the surrounding lush jungle trails. After days of mountain trails and river rapids, I drove out to the Pacific coast to catch world class swells along the golden beaches of Tamarindo and Santa Teresa. Paddling out into the warm Ocean, feeling the energy of the tide, and catching smooth glass waves under the setting sun provided the ultimate finale to an action packed itinerary. The waterfalls in La Paz Park are a cascade of waterfalls with walking paths. The sound of water, the humid air, the greenery stretching to the horizon, and a trail that sometimes descends to a roaring stream, sometimes leads to a viewing platform with a postcard-perfect view. There's not just one waterfall here, but a whole series—each with its own character: one gentle as mist, another a powerful wall of water that makes the ground tremble underfoot. Walking along the trail, you understand why Costa Rica is called the land of water and forest. All of Costa Rica's waterfalls charge an entrance fee, typically $25-$50. Tickets to La Paz National Park cost $63 per person. You can also see the animals I mentioned in the previous video, so the price is reasonable considering how much you'll see. This unique park is located a little over an hour drive from the capital city of San Jose. Here you can enjoy the trail to the waterfalls. There are also restaurants and various rescued animals such as sloths. We also saw Calibri birds in open air and butterflies. Valentine’s Day for me is to help my beloved animals…. I was just introduced to @animalloverescue center in Costa Rica, which needs urgent help ❗ It’s a non-profit no-kill charitable shelter that takes care of 450 dogs 🐶 and 350 cats 🐱, in addition to sheep, goats, geese, ducks, horses, and others (1200 animals in total). Most of them came to the center after being mistreated, wounded, paralyzed, or abandoned 💔 The rescue center was funded by the hotel “Lands in love”, which stopped receiving guests from the middle of March 2020 as a result of the global world crisis. That means that they have no funds to keep the shelter running and their dogs and cats and the rest of the animals are at risk of getting to the point of starvation and eventually of being released to the streets 🙏💜

Although, there are no guards or park rangers is most of these areas so you are responsible for your own safety. Getting a breath with your family and friends, hiking up and down the mountains, only you and those gorgeous natural surroundings, it’s what makes Costa Rica so great. You don’t need to spend money to visit great areas, you just need to know where to find it.
