What to see if you’re visiting Tbilisi for the first time: • Narikala Fortress — This ancient fortress towers over the city and offers stunning views of the old town, the Kura River, and the surrounding mountains. You can hike up or take the cable car for a panoramic view of the entire city. Sunsets here are especially beautiful. On the hill above the fortress stands the Monument of Mother Georgia — a figure of a woman holding a sword in one hand and a wine cup in the other. It perfectly reflects the character of the country: strong yet warm and hospitable. • Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity Cathedral) — The largest church in Tbilisi and one of the biggest Orthodox churches in the Caucasus. Though modern, it looks monumental and harmonizes beautifully with the city. Climbing the hill to Sameba is worth it for the panoramic views of the old town and the Kura River. Inside, the mosaics, frescoes, and domes create an incredibly solemn and peaceful atmosphere. • Abanotubani District — The famous sulfur baths with domed roofs. A very atmospheric place, filled with the scent of sulfur and history. You can visit one of the baths if you wish. • The Bridge of Peace — A modern symbol of the city, especially striking in the evening. • The Old Town — Simply wander. Without a plan. Turn into random courtyards and discover beautiful doors and wine bars. • Stroll along Shota Rustaveli Avenue — Theaters, museums, and the capital’s ambiance. What you must try: — Khinkali — Juicy dumplings with broth inside (make sure to eat them the right way 😉) — Khachapuri — Especially Adjarian style, with egg and stretchy cheese — And yes… wine ice cream 🍷🍦 — It sounds unusual, but Georgia knows how to surprise After that, be sure to try authentic Georgian wine — the taste and aroma here are unlike anywhere else. A small glass of red or white wine instantly immerses you in the country’s atmosphere and makes a city stroll even more special. If you have at least one free day, make sure to venture out of the city: • Kazbegi — Mountains, tranquility, and the Gergeti Trinity Church standing at an altitude of 2,170 meters against the majestic backdrop of Mount Kazbek. It’s truly breathtaking. • Sighnaghi — A small, cozy city of love with incredible views. • Kakheti — Vineyards, wine tastings, and that famous Georgian hospitality. • Ananuri — A fortress by the water on the way to the mountains. A very photogenic spot. For me, Tbilisi is a city of emotions. Of lively conversations at the table, of wine poured generously, of music drifting from open windows.

If you're visiting Georgia for the first time, especially Tbilisi and Batumi, I hope my notes can help you plan your trip and leisure activities overall. In general, 7-8 days are enough for a first acquaintance with this wonderful country. This time, we planned the itinerary as follows: 3-4 days in Tbilisi, followed by a train ride to Batumi for another 3-4 days. Day 1: Stroll through the Old Town, Peace Bridge, boat ride on the Kura River, sulfur baths; Day 2: Narikala Fortress + Mother of Kartli, Chronicles of Georgia, funicular ride to Mtatsminda; Day 3: Take a day trip. Last year, we went to Gudauri for a day; this year, we're heading to Kakheti; Day 4: Trip to Mtskheta and enjoy the remnants of luxury like Dry Bridge and a walk along Shota Rustaveli Avenue; Day 5: Travel to Batumi on a comfortable train, similar to our Afrosiab; the journey takes about 5 hours. A new highway has also opened, and if you're driving, you can reach Batumi in 3 hours according to online information. After checking in, you can take a walk to Ali and Nino, enjoy a boat ride on the sea, and, of course, relax on the beach; Day 6: Mountain trip - Martvili Canyon, Okatse Canyon, and Prometheus Cave; Day 7: A must-visit - Batumi Botanical Garden. You can also travel to Ureki or Shekvetili, where you'll find black magnetic sand. Of course, there are MANY places to visit, but we always start with the main ones :)

Is Georgia suitable for a self-drive trip? Yes — if you're already a confident driver. But you’ll need a lot of focus! First, they drive on the left-hand side of the car (left-hand drive), so if you’re not used to it, it can feel confusing at first. Sometimes both the driver and passenger get disoriented or even mix up which side to get in the car 😂. Most locals are extremely skilled at overtaking on curves — both in the city and in the mountains. Some roads aren’t great, with lots of rocks and constant construction. In some areas, you even have to avoid cows because locals raise a lot of cattle. Our itinerary is very chill because… well, our bodies can’t handle intense trips anymore 😂. We only visited a few places each day because the distances between cities are long and travel time eats up a big part of the day. Travel dates: 17–28 September 2025 🚗 Let’s hit the road… ✿ Day 1: Tbilisi We landed in Tbilisi, the capital, and spent one day exploring before heading to other cities. But the wind was extremely strong that day — strong enough that the cable car was shut down — so our plans changed completely. We ended up strolling around the city instead. • Dry Bridge Flea Market • Rustaveli Avenue • Freedom Square • Jan Sharden Kucha • Rike Park • Bridge of Peace • Gabriadze Clock Tower ✿ Day 2: Mtskheta – Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) Today we headed to Kazbegi — about a 3-hour drive up the mountains. The road and conditions were good and not scary, though you’ll need to watch out for occasional rocks and potholes. Lots of curves, but definitely not as bad as Mae Hong Son! On the way, we stopped in Mtskheta, which is full of religious sites — so many churches, and they’re beautiful with great viewpoints. • Chronicle of Georgia • Jvari Monastery • Ananuri Fortress ✿ Day 3: Juta Valley (Fifth Season) Fifth Season and Juta Village are dreams for mountain lovers who (like us) don’t really want to hike much 😂. Reviews said the walk to Fifth Season is only about 1 km — so we booked immediately! But honestly… it’s quite steep. It’s the most exhausting 1 km ever. But even someone like me who never exercises could do it — so you can too!! We stayed at Fifth Season. There’s a lake you can hike to (another 3 km), but nope… we rested instead 😌. ✿ Day 4: Kazbegi – Borjomi A long travel day — around 4+ hours from Kazbegi to Borjomi.
