Puglia forms the heel of the boot of Italy. It’s famous for the town of Alberobello and the trulli houses, but the coast line with its ancient cities is just as beautiful with stunning views, architecture and food! If you have a few days, you can of course do both. For a day to Alberobello and Locorotondo, you can take the bus from Bari, but you need to plan, as the buses only go a couple of times a day, so you need to ensure you don’t miss the last bus back. For a day visiting the coastal cities, from Bari, you can take the train along the coast to Monopoli and Polignano a Mare (the birthplace of the singer Domenico Modugno, famous for the song Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu). As the home of burrata and the pasta shape orechiette, as well as famous wines such as primitivo and Negroamaro, this region is a feast for food and wine lovers. January is a great time to go when it’s a bit quieter, but still much warmer than more northern cities or countries. On Christmas Day, I joined a tour visiting Polignano a Mare, Alberobello and Locorotondo. All lovely places. Highly recommend visiting all three villages. I spent about 2-3 hours in each but it wouldn’t hurt to stay longer. On the other side of the famous Amalfi Coast in southern Italy, there is a region called Puglia. Since we did a course including the Amalfi Coast last year, we visited Puglia this time. We started from a city called Bari and went down to Tor del Rosso Orlanto, which is small but the transportation was not inconvenient. Of course, it would have been better if we had rented a car. The weather was very hot, but the occasional rain cooled us down. #puglia

What I felt while viewing was that the contents of the exhibition felt increasingly poor compared to the admission fee. I was able to download the audio guide using a QR code and listen to it, but the sound quality and contents were not very satisfactory, so I ended up stopping listening in the middle. The Eucharistic chalice that contained wine was gorgeous and amazing. The comfortable facial expression in the Virgin Mary’s sacred painting left an impression. And in the sacred painting of the Annunciation, the angel Gabriel, the Virgin Mary, and God’s presence were all in harmony in one picture.
