If you visit Vienna, you absolutely must stop by Café Central! 🎻 This isn’t just any café—it’s a historic spot that opened its doors in 1876 and represents Vienna’s traditional café culture. With its grand Gothic-style interior, you’ll find yourself thinking, "Ah, this is the true Austrian vibe!" The atmosphere is simply stunning. A Place Frequented by Historical Figures Café Central isn’t just a tourist attraction; it’s also famous for being a favorite spot of historical figures like Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, and Leon Trotsky. Waiting in Line vs. Online Reservations Given its popularity, the wait time can be quite long. I personally waited over 40 minutes… 😭 Standing outside the café, I was silently pleading, "Please, people ahead of me, leave quickly!" But everyone seemed to want to linger and enjoy the ambiance. Thankfully, you can make online reservations via Google Maps, so if you’re planning a visit, I highly recommend booking in advance! Austrian Breakfast (€14.50) Croissant + Bread + Butter + Raspberry Jam + Tea I ordered the Austrian breakfast, and to my surprise, the raspberry jam was absolutely delicious. When I spread it on the bread, I thought, "Wow, this is sexy food!" The croissant was crispy yet soft, making it a perfect light breakfast. Since I don’t drink coffee, I paired it with orange juice, which turned out to be a great combination. Cake (€6.90) Since I was already there, I decided to try a cake as well. Honestly, it was a bit underwhelming—too sweet for my taste. (Apparently, Café Central is more famous for its coffee and ambiance rather than its desserts.) Still, the experience of enjoying dessert in such a magnificent space was worthwhile.

We booked a three-bedroom loft apartment, and it was exactly as shown in the pictures—everything was clean and tidy. From the bedroom windows, you can see mountains and lakes on three sides, and from the living room balcony, you can see the village of Hallstatt. The rooms are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay and cooking. The owners provide essentials like tea, coffee, salt, sugar, and basic cooking oil. The apartment also has many games, puzzles, and books that my children loved. They also have a sun deck by the lake, which is a great spot for a quick picnic. The apartment is very close to all the places you want to visit in Hallstatt, yet it is very quiet and away from the tourist hustle and bustle. Hallstatt Lahn (bus/boat station) is a 4-minute walk from the apartment, and we had no trouble dragging our suitcases from there to the apartment. There is a children's park 50 meters from the apartment, which the kids loved. Supermarkets and restaurants are also nearby. The owners are very nice. They live on the first floor. They helped us move our luggage to the second floor (where we stayed) and let us use the washing machine (+ dryer) where we washed all our clothes. They even brought some bread so the kids could feed the swans on the sun deck. I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Hallstatt.

The salt mines in Hallstatt have a very long history. They were originally on the seabed tens of thousands of years ago, but were uplifted into mountains by the compression of the plates, and these thousand-year-old crystallized salt mines are treasured in this mountain 511 meters above sea level. The tour experience here is held every half an hour. If you buy your ticket on the spot, you shouldn't have to wait too long. After the ticket is checked, you need to change into a miner's uniform and queue up with the staff to receive it, and then return it after the tour. There are two wooden slides in the salt mine. In the past, they were tools for miners to move to the lower level. Now they are the highlight of the tour that excites tourists. With a length of 64 meters, it is also the longest wooden slide in Europe. The tour guide will ask everyone to line up one by one. There is also a traffic light sign above, which is super cute. You can slide down alone or with two people. There is also a small screen above to help you take pictures. After that, we walked all the way in the underground salt mine. Salt crystals can be seen everywhere on the walls. Since 1960, excavation projects have been carried out here every year to continuously study the historical trajectory of mine excavations over the past thousand years. There are also many installations in the tunnels, like a natural indoor museum, allowing tourists to learn about the stories of the past. Came here for a night whilst solo backpacking. A day for me is enough to see the highlights of Vienna. Night life was okayish to be honest. But sightseeings are so pretty. One thing that we like the most when we go abroad is walking around convenience stores. We get to walk around and see food, local products, and get excited about things that are different from our home country. This is the charm of traveling abroad. Today, we will take you to Unimarkt. Everything here closes very early. From 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., they start to close. So we have to hurry. There are a lot of products here: vegetables, fruits, bakery goods, bread, condiments, drinking water, soft drinks, fresh food. Simply put, if the hotel can cook, you won't starve when you go to the supermarket. Haha. What about everyone? Do you like walking around the supermarket when you go abroad? 📍Rathauspark W (1010 Wien, Austria) I spent New Year's Eve 2020 in Vienna, Austria 🙂 Rathauspark W is home to a massive Christmas market in the winter! On December 31st, they host a New Year's Eve performance alongside the market! Many people gathered here to enjoy the performance, and when I heard they were all celebrating the New Year together, I went to join in the countdown. 🏃🏻‍♀️ Even though I arrived around 11 a.m., it was packed, as expected from a major year-end event. I can't breathe, and I have to keep opening the car windows to let the air in. But be sure to check the hours, as each market closes differently, with most closing well before Christmas. 🎄🎄🎄 Recommended Food and Drinks: Don't Miss!!! - Gluehwein: Warm red wine to quench the cold. 🍷 - Eierlikör mit sahne: Egg liqueur served with whipped cream. 🥂 - Kartoffelrösti mit Apfelmus: French fries cut into wedges.
