I didn’t know there was a Papal Palace in France until I visited one in Avignon. It was an old building but still pretty interesting. The place Is really big and good for 2 hours long. There is an interactive tablet that serves as a guide as well. It makes use of VR so that was pretty cool. It’s the main attraction in Avignon and a must visit, although it’s not something incredibly breathtaking. Cool experience nonetheless.

At 2 PM, after dropping off luggage at a hotel near Avignon train station, I started walking toward the Palais des Papes. This city is perfect for both in-depth exploration and as a transit stop. The route from the train station to the Palais des Papes is almost a straight main street through the city center, where shops, restaurants, museums, and art galleries are densely concentrated. In October, the weather is pleasant, and every restaurant has outdoor seating. Wine, ice cream, pizza, and desserts are enjoyed under the sunshine on smiling faces. Occasionally, conversations flow like singing, interspersed with street performers and the tinkling of a small tourist train. This scene perfectly captures the meaning of "leisure." What I imagined, what I saw at the moment, and what I felt inside were completely in harmony. For a moment, one might forget Avignon’s ancient history until reaching the Palais des Papes square. Located in southeastern France, this city is a key route connecting northern and southern France and was historically a necessary passage for land travel to Italy and Spain. As a transportation hub, Avignon has been a prosperous town since Roman times. In 1309, Pope Clement V moved the papacy to Avignon, making it a religious center until 1378. Although Pope Gregory XI later returned the papacy to Rome, Avignon remained papal territory until the end of the French Revolution. Most of Avignon’s existing buildings date back to the 14th century, and in 1995, the historic center of Avignon was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
