We went to a hot spring inn in Awara Onsen, one of the most popular hot spring resorts in the Hokuriku region, where you can stay with your pet. This is a pet-first inn where pets are allowed in all areas of the building except for the large public bath. There are plenty of things to enjoy, including welcome treats for pets, a photo space, and indoor and outdoor dog runs. This hotel is located near the lake. It's about a 10-minute taxi ride from JR Awara Station. There's nothing around but the lake, and the hotel has a shop, but if you want something to drink or something, I recommend buying it at the station. There are two baths, and from both the large bath and the open-air bath you can slowly watch the lake as it sunset. I booked a room with a Western-style bed, but the Japanese-modern atmosphere was very nice. For breakfast and dinner, we had a course meal using local ingredients. There were many small children, so they were very considerate and made sure to welcome them. It's also recommended for families. JR Awara Onsen Station is buzzing with excitement as the Hokuriku Shinkansen line opens! While construction work is underway around the station, a CUBE stands alone in the square. It's an 8-minute walk from Awara Yunomachi Station through the city center. It's Isshintei, a pork cutlet restaurant. While Fukui is famous for its sauce katsudon, this one is called the "toji-nai katsudon," a bowl of rice topped with a soft-boiled egg. You can choose between soy sauce or sauce. The photo shows a chicken fillet katsudon with soy sauce. The cutlet was crispy, and the soy sauce broth added a nice flavor. Give this toji-nai katsudon a try.

The Yukake Matsuri (Water-Sprinkling Festival) is held every year on August 8th and 9th in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture. Food stalls begin setting up in the evening in the square in front of Yunomachi Station, followed by stage events. The main event begins at 8:45 PM on the 8th, when hot water rains down from a tower erected in front of the station and from a mikoshi (portable shrine) paraded down the street! Participants, armed with water guns and bathtubs, splash hot water on each other, both familiar and strangers alike. Even if you weren't planning on getting wet, you'll end up soaked! The roadside station is dotted with unique shops that people of all ages can enjoy. 👇 crepe Mokka (crepes) lunch picnic KINO (hamburger steak, burger, and pork cutlet bowl with sauce) + Hitomame (homemade soy milk) Berika (strawberry soft serve ice cream) The strawberry soft serve we enjoyed outside was also delicious. 🍓🍦 A takeout homemade soy milk drink was the perfect accompaniment for a drive. ◎ After that, we explored some of the Pokémon manholes scattered throughout Fukui Prefecture!
