Bacolod travel guide and discussion

A cheap flight isn't automatically a good deal. And a full-service airline isn't automatically worth paying more for. The right choice depends on what you actually need. 🏨 FULL-SERVICE AIRLINES Think: 🇸🇬 Singapore Airlines 🇭🇰 Cathay Pacific 🇯🇵 ANA 🇰🇷 Korean Air 🇻🇳 Vietnam Airlines You're generally paying for a more inclusive experience, which can include: 🧳 Checked baggage on eligible fares 🍱 Meals & drinks 💺 More included services 🌏 Connecting networks ⭐ Frequent-flyer benefits Best for: long-haul flights, complicated itineraries, travellers with luggage, and people who value convenience. 🎒 LOW-COST AIRLINES Think: 🇲🇾 AirAsia 🇸🇬 Scoot 🇻🇳 Vietjet 🇭🇰 HK Express 🇵🇭 Cebu Pacific The basic idea is different: Start with a lower fare → add only what you need. You may pay separately for: 🧳 Checked baggage 💺 Seat selection 🍱 Meals 🔄 Flexibility ⚡ Priority services Best for: short trips, direct routes, light packers and travellers focused on keeping the base fare low. 👀 BUT HERE'S THE BIG MISTAKE Don't compare: $50 low-cost fare vs. $120 full-service fare Compare: $50 + baggage + seat + meal vs. $120 with those things included 💰 THEN COMPARE THE TOTAL. Sometimes the low-cost airline wins by a mile. Sometimes the supposedly expensive airline is actually the better deal. 🎯 WHO SHOULD YOU CHOOSE? 🎒 Travelling light + short trip? → Low-cost can be perfect. 🧳 Large suitcase + long flight? → Full-service may make more sense. 🌏 Need connections? → Look closely at the network. ⭐ Fly frequently? → Loyalty benefits can change the calculation. 🍱 Want everything included? → Compare the full-service fare. THE GOLDEN RULE: LOW COST DOESN'T MEAN BAD. FULL SERVICE DOESN'T MEAN BEST. The best airline is the one that gives you the best value for the way YOU travel. 📌 SAVE THIS POST BEFORE YOU BOOK ✈️ Would you choose low-cost + add-ons or full-service + more included? 👇 #budgettravel #fullserviceairline #lowcostairlines #airasia #scoot #vietjet #hkexpress #cebupacific #singaporeairlines #cathaypacific #vietnamairlines #asiatravel #flighttips #traveltips #cheapflights

#bucketlistdestinations Most people climb Mount Kanlaon for the bragging rights, but I went for the Mambucal Hot Spring Park at its base, and it turned out to be the real bucket-list item. Located about 30 kilometers southwest of Bacolod City, the park sits at 1,200 meters, acting as the last civilized outpost before the mossy forest takes over. Entry is a humble 50 PHP (about $1 USD), paid in cash at the gate—card payments are a no-go in these highlands. The "Seven Falls" trail is the main draw, but I spent my morning in the sulfuric hot pools. After a humid 4 AM hike through the lower mossy forest—where the air smells like wet earth and the trees drip with old man’s beard lichen—soaking in 40°C water while steam rose around me felt like a religious experience. The park is strict about its "no alcohol in the pools" rule, and for good reason; the mineral balance is delicate. My mistake? I wore brand-new waterproof boots. The limestone and moss made them slicker than socks on tile. Bring a pair of sturdy, broken-in trail shoes or even camp sandals for the poolside. I also didn’t bring enough small bills; the sari-sari stores outside sell cold soda for 20 PHP, but they rarely have change for a 500-peso note. A local guide, Kuya Joel, pointed to a specific pool near the bamboo grove, whispering, "That one is for the bones; the others are for the skin." He was right—the temperature gradient is real. The Question: If a volcano is active and dangerous to climb, does the beauty of its foothills offer a better, more sustainable way to experience its power?

First flight from Manila to Bacolod Thanks God 🙏

Perched inside KSL, the newly opened Iron Wok Saga is already winning hearts with one simple promise: chicken stir-fried right in front of you. The moment you order, a chef fires up a blazing wok, and for the next fifteen minutes, you're held captive—watching, smelling, and waiting impatiently as the chicken sizzles and glazes to perfection. Time seems to slow down when you're hungry, and every flip of the wok only deepens the craving. But when that steaming plate finally lands on your table, all the impatience melts away. The chicken is tender, smoky, and absolutely delicious. What truly caught us off guard, though, was the side of dough that came with it. Soft, warm, and slightly blistered, it tasted wonderfully similar to naan—chewy and rich, perfect for sopping up every last drop of sauce. Together, the theatrical cooking, the succulent chicken, and that unexpectedly delightful naan-like bread turn a simple meal into something genuinely memorable. Iron Wok Saga isn’t just dinner; it’s a show you can eat.

Kumusta 🇵🇭 As a child, I once read a story about Filipino healers that stayed in my memory forever. Later, I heard stories about people from all over the world traveling to the Philippines searching for love, a new life, or simply a different atmosphere. Back then, I could barely find the country on a map. Today, I truly love it despite all its imperfections and contrasts. The greatest value of the Philippines is its people. The kindness, openness, and positivity of Filipinos can genuinely be an example for many others. Since my first trip in November 2024, and after relocating to Kuala Lumpur shortly afterward, I have already visited the Philippines nine times. And I hope many more trips are still ahead. Most of my trips are now on the Kuala Lumpur–Cebu route after flights resumed in late 2025, although there are many daily flights to Manila as well. The flight takes around 3.5 hours depending on weather and landing conditions. I usually fly with AirAsia because prices are often very affordable, especially without checked baggage. But there is one important detail: at Kuala Lumpur Terminal 2, carry-on luggage is weighed before document control, and staff can be quite strict even with small excess weight. Experienced travelers probably already know how to deal with that. Before arrival, travelers need to complete the eTravel form within 3 days before departure using the official website or app. After registration, you receive a QR code that should be saved or screenshotted. Citizens of many countries can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, although there are exceptions, so always check official immigration information before flying. A return or onward ticket is important because airlines and immigration officers may ask for it. From my experience, the more Philippine stamps I had in my passport, the fewer questions immigration officers asked. During my latest arrival, I was not asked anything at all. Usually the questions are very basic: purpose of visit, length of stay, hotel, and return ticket. For transportation, I actively use Grab for both taxis and food delivery. Public transport infrastructure is relatively limited in many places, so Grab is often the easiest and most comfortable option while still remaining affordable. Cash is important because cards are not accepted everywhere. Interestingly, exchange rates at Manila airport can actually be quite good, while Cebu airport rates are usually less favorable. For domestic flights, I personally experienced several delays and cancellations with Cebu Pacific and Cebgo, so whenever possible I prefer Philippine Airlines or AirAsia. For me, the Philippines means sunshine, islands, beautiful nature, and some of the warmest and friendliest people I have ever met. If you stay kind, respectful, and open-minded, traveling there feels surprisingly easy and comfortable. Salamat po.

Well, I’m here to tell you: yes, it absolutely is! The Philippines is a beautiful archipelago with over 7,000 islands, each with its own charm and story. From majestic mountains to white-sand beaches, hidden waterfalls, underground rivers, crystal-clear lakes, and mystical caves—there’s always something new to discover. Nature lovers, adventure seekers, and soul searchers alike will find their slice of paradise here. Another thing that adds to the fun? The people and their traditions. So, if you’re looking for your next destination—look no further. With its natural wonders, unique traditions, delicious food, and warm-hearted people, the Philippines really is more fun.

BACOLOD CITY, known as the City of Smiles, is one of the highly urbanized cities in the Philippines today. Bacolod offers a diverse experience blending historical charm, cultural vibrancy, and culinary delights. Known as the "City of Smiles," Bacolod is a great place to explore iconic landmarks like the San Sebastian Cathedral and The Ruins, enjoy the vibrant nightlife, indulge in local cuisine, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Touring is convenient in Bacolod because they have different mode of transportation making it so accessible to nearby provinces such as Guimaras and Iloilo. Also, you should not miss the food in Bacolod especially their signature Chicken Inasal! #negrosoccidental #bacolod

Although I missed the MassKara Festival in October, the City of Smiles still beckoned, so I decided to visit. Bacolod City doesn't have many attractions within the city itself, just a few churches and museums, but the ruins on the outskirts are famous far and wide. If you hurry, you can see it all in one day. 🏞Itinerary: San Sebastian Cathedral—Bacolod Old City Hall—The Ruins 🕰Morning: 1️⃣ San Sebastian Cathedral This medieval church ⛪ is right behind the accommodations. The main structure is built with coral stones from Guimaras Island. 👉The coral stone exterior walls in the sunlight and the Baroque dome are unique. It is said that there is a saint's festival in January. 💡Tip: This is not a tourist-style church, so please be quiet during your visit. You can experience the local religious culture during mass.⛪ 💰Admission: Free! 📍Address: Rizal St., Bacolod City (10 mins walk from the city center) ⏰Opening hours: Monday–Saturday 6:00–19:00 / Sunday 5:00–20:30 2️⃣ Bacolod Old City Hall This Spanish colonial building, completed in the 1880s, once served as the mayor's office. The Justice Fountain is in front of it. You must take a photo when passing by. 👉The interior is not open to the public, but the Old City Hall is in the most prosperous area of the city, close to restaurants and shops. 📍Address: Intersection of Araneta and Luzuriaga Streets, city center 🚶‍♀️Transportation: Walking distance to the public square/cathedral, forming a triangle with the Justice Fountain for photo opportunities 🕰Afternoon 3️⃣ The Ruins 🌺These ruins are known as the Taj Mahal of Negros Occidental and are a must-see attraction. 👉In the Middle Ages, sugar tycoon Don Mariano built this Italian-style manor to commemorate his wife, Maria, who died in childbirth. During World War II, to prevent the Japanese army from occupying it, the manor was burned for three days, leaving only the skeleton. 🌟If you have time, count whether there are 10 bedrooms. The concrete building has a marble-like sheen, and the shell decorations are a tribute to his father-in-law, a sea captain. The initials "Ms" are hidden in the carvings on the pillars, a poignant detail!! 📍Tips: The sunset through the ruins is especially picturesque. The mango smoothie at the cafe at the entrance is excellent.👍👍 Listen to the family descendants tell the secrets and touch the time marks on the tiles. ⏰Opening hours: 9:00–18:00 (open daily) 📍Address: Talisay City, Negros Occidental (10 mins drive from Bacolod City) 🚗Transportation: A taxi from Bacolod City costs about 150 pesos, or take a jeepney to Talisay and then walk.

The Ruins ✍️ One of the most famous historical tourist spot in Negros Occidental. It is also dubbed as the "Taj Mahal of Negros" ⛲️Be amazed by its old architectural design and outside view of the mansion ☕️Open cafeteria with mansion's view 📍The Ruins, Talisay City, Negros Occidental 🎬 Pitik Allendog Steve Allen Negros Occidental and Oriental Riders and Media Influencers Society #citydaytours

It was a trip to Bacolod, Philippines 🇵🇭 We began our adventure with a visit to The Ruins, the beautiful remains of the former mansion of the Lacson family. Located in Talisay, just outside Bacolod, the mansion was built in the early 1900s and was burned during World War II, leaving only the skeletal structure that stands as a testament to its past ✨ The well-maintained garden 🌺 around the ruins provide the perfect backdrop for photography, especially during the late afternoon ✨ when the sunlight bathes the ruins in a warm, golden hue. We highly recommend visiting around 4:30 PM to catch the sunset 🌇 it's magical! 📍The Ruins, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines Another highlight of our trip was the San Sebastian Cathedral ⛪️ a stunning example of Spanish colonial architecture. Located right in the heart of Bacolod, we explored this historical landmark in the morning ☀️ The cathedral's facade is beautiful, and the interior's tranquil atmosphere is perfect for some quiet reflection. We recommend taking photos 📸 of the grand facade as well as the intricate stained-glass windows. It’s particularly serene in the morning before the crowds arrive. 📍San Sebastian Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines One of the best places we visited for a local experience was Bacolod Public Plaza, situated near the cathedral. The park is filled with lush greenery, fountains ⛲️ and sculptures, making it a peaceful yet bustling spot in the city. We spent some time here capturing photos of the vibrant local life and the iconic statue of the city's founder. For the best lighting ✨ we recommend visiting early in the morning or during the late afternoon for softer natural light. 📍Araneta Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines For nature lovers, a trip to the Negros Forests 🌳 and Ecological Foundation is a must. We had an unforgettable experience exploring the wildlife sanctuary that houses 🏘️ endemic species of birds 🦅 plants, and animals unique to the region. The lush forest 🌳 setting provides a fantastic opportunity for photography, especially for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. We recommend visiting in the morning ☀️ when the animals are most active and the forest is peaceful. 📍1st Lacson Street Extension, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines We truly enjoyed our time in Bacolod and found it to be a city full of vibrant culture, beautiful landscapes, and delicious food. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or a foodie, Bacolod has something for everyone 🙌🙌🙌 #philippinestrip #travel #Vacation

I have been to Mambukal Mountain Resort several times in Murcia, Negros Occidental. It is 32 kms away from Bacolod City. For the first time, I decided with my family to spend overnight to enjoy the wondrous nature inherent to the place. There are many things to enjoy in this resort like boating in the man made lagoon, camping, ziplining, trekking to the water falls and most of all, swimming at the hot spring which gives therapy to our tired bodies. With regards to the accomodation, I decided to choose the Family Cottage good for 8-12 people, with 2 spacious rooms, big kitchen, dining area and sala. Overnight rate is 4,000 php. At the entrance, I paid 50php for each tickets. By the way, there is no restaurant inside. Just bring your own kitchen needs and food for your own cooking. Staying at Mambukal is truly relaxing staycation. For the eight of us in this trip is a real value for money. #mountainview#CelebrateWithTrip#tripblazers#MyTripVlog#infinitypool#summervacation#resort

I was moving around Bacolod City on a Chinese New Year 2023, January 22. As I passed by Capitol Shopping Center, Hilado St., Brgy Villamonte, Bacolod City, I found a youth group on their dragon dance that will drive away evil spirits and ushers good luck for the family. I danced with them and accordingly must wake up the dragon. As part of the tradition of the Lunar New Year, I was given a red envelop known as HONGBAO, and I filled in money to ask for good wishes and luck for 2023. The Ruins Mansion is the remains of an ancestral home built in 1920 by a wealthy sugar baron named Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson. Don Mariano constructed the mansion as a testament of his love for his wife, Cora Maria Osorio Rosa-Braga. I bet he didn’t foresee that it would be intentionally burned down later on. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have made it so intricately beautiful. Not that I’m complaining. “The Ruins” is just beyond beautiful. While browsing photos of tourist spots in Metro Bacolod online, this was one of the first things to catch our attention. There was something fascinating about this naked concrete structure bathing in the dwindling sunlight. While planning for this trip, we swore we would try to visit it at dusk. And we made it. We were welcomed by the staff of the Ruins. Upon seeing our backpacks, they realized we came straight from the airport. One of the guys even joked, “Sir, hindi po hotel ‘to.” It was a good way to start a conversation. They were very accommodating. They even advised us to leave our backpacks at their station coz it was drizzling and they wanted us to be comfortable. We took their advice, and they looked after our belongings since. #yearofrabbit #newyearadventure #tripblazers
