I learned that it was quite a powerhouse in the 1950s and 60s, driven by some unexpected industries, and it even boasted luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Hermès (though Hermès has since closed). Today, it continues to attract many high-end brands. Getting to Bari: So Easy! I found Bari to be incredibly accessible, with multiple transportation options: By Air: I even found flights from Rome to Bari starting from around 130 RMB (including tax). By Train: High-speed trains are available, with tickets costing roughly 80 Euros for a 5-hour journey. By Bus: There's also a central bus station, and I heard bus fares can be incredibly cheap if you catch a good deal. Exploring Bari City: Old Town Charm & Coastal Beauty Getting from the airport to the city center was easy; the last express train departs around 10 PM. Old Town & Harbor: The Old Town (Bari Vecchia) and its stunning harbor are absolutely beautiful, and I loved exploring them together. It is the main church of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto, dedicated to Saint Sabino (Bishop of Canosa, whose remains were moved here in the 9th century). If you have a few days, you can of course do both. For a day to Alberobello and Locorotondo, you can take the bus from Bari, but you need to plan, as the buses only go a couple of times a day, so you need to ensure you don’t miss the last bus back. For a day visiting the coastal cities, from Bari, you can take the train along the coast to Monopoli and Polignano a Mare (the birthplace of the singer Domenico Modugno, famous for the song Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu). As the home of burrata and the pasta shape orechiette, as well as famous wines such as primitivo and Negroamaro, this region is a feast for food and wine lovers. January is a great time to go when it’s a bit quieter, but still much warmer than more northern cities or countries.
