Sweet Sohoton Cave in Grande Island
If you are the explorer type of person and wants to visit hidden beaches, you must try the Sohoton Cave. The pristine clear blue waters would convince you to swim right away. Boats are also present for island hopping. The locals there are very friendly. I would highly recommend to bring your own waterproof cellphone case to ensure you get the best photos under the sea #travellocal

Hidden Gem Lake of Banyoles Near Barcelona
🌿 A hidden gem lake just 1 hour from Barcelona! So beautiful it calms your heart
📍 Estany de Banyoles
This trip was truly healing. No noisy crowds, no commercial pressure, just the light slowly flowing over the lake surface.
⸻
✨ Why is it worth visiting?
• Crystal-clear lake view: On sunny days, you can see the lake bottom, the water is as green as a spilled palette.
• Few tourists: Even on weekends, there are plenty of quiet moments, the atmosphere is never crowded.
• Great for photos: Boardwalk + white boathouses + lake reflections, every shot looks like a Nordic vacation.
• Comfortable trails: The lakeside path is flat all the way, perfect for a leisurely walk.
• Lots of small animals: Ducks 🦆, seagulls, and some others I didn’t even recognize, you can also feed them.
⸻
📸 Best photo spots (tested!)
1. White boathouses “Pesqueres”
Iconic buildings, they look like little houses from a Studio Ghibli world.
2. Lakeside boardwalk
Backlit silhouettes are especially dreamy.
3. Small pier in the middle of the lake
When it’s quiet, you can capture stunning lake extension lines.
4. Sunset spot
West side trail, the sunset casts golden sparkles on the lake.
⸻
🏞️ Suggested route (super easy)
🚌 Barcelona → Banyoles (depart from Estació del Nord bus station)
We drove and there’s a parking lot nearby 🅿️
➡️ Start walking from the east side of the lake
➡️ White boathouses — wetland trail — boardwalk area
➡️ Head to the west side of the lake before sunset
A leisurely 1-hour loop, very relaxing.
⸻
⏰ Best times to visit
• 9–11 AM: The water is clearest, and the light is soft.
• Sunset: The golden lake surface is absolutely stunning.
• Summer: Bring sunscreen
• Autumn/Winter: Bring a jacket, it can be chilly by the lake
⸻
🍽️ Lakeside café recommendations
• La Carpa Banyoles: Outdoor area with lake views and coffee, good value
• Cacau Girona (in town): If you want dessert, you can walk to the town center
⸻
⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls
• There aren’t many restaurants by the lake, better bring water and snacks in advance
• Public transport runs less frequently on Sundays, check your return trip ahead
• Lots of grass by the lake, mosquitoes in summer, bring repellent
⸻
If you want a place you can reach without driving, where your heart can slow down,
Lake Banyoles is definitely the gentlest hidden gem near Barcelona.

About P3450 all-inclusive for 4 persons - Pontoon boat, kayaks from cave to natural bridge, entrance fees, safety equipment, and guide fee. Get Larry if you can, knowledgeable, humorous, and from the area. We stayed in Basey, 30 - 40 min. ride away. One can also take a boat from the dock on the edge of town. Not available during our visit.
Inside caves, we found a magical land of formations and huge caverns. All explained by Larry in an easily understood manner. He also answers questions from experienced 'cavers'. Park lodge has snack foods, souvenir corner, tables to eat any food brought by visitors, C.R., where can also change into dry clothes (bring ur own) after a swim in the river. A few basic overnight cottages. Bring cameras or regret it. Native birds along banks of the river (kingfisher family mainly) and lizards that can run over water, barely leaving a splash. The boat crew knew their jobs, and we even had residents playing/signing Waray tunes just up the steps from the dock before reaching the cave entrance. Nature really got some Wow's from our mouths. Larry offered an experience of total blackness by turning off strategically placed lights. And if the group wants to experience total silence, just stop talking and be quiet. We did it for about 30 seconds, with only the sound of an occasional drip of stalagmite/mite making water. Loved our time in Sohoton Caves Nat'l Park. What a Find.

Sohoton Lagoon - Relaxing and mesmerizing

On our trip to Siarago Island, we took a boat tour to Sohoton Lagoon on Socorro Island. We went to the main tourist information area in General Luna to book the tour. Renting a boat costs 5,000 pesos. So it is recommended that you split the cost between up to 6 riders. The tour includes not only Sohoton Lagoon but a three-stop island hopping tour ( Naked Island, Guyam Island & Daku Island ). The boats leave early in the morning because it is a two-hour boat ride to Sohoton Cove. Once you get to Sohoton Cove, you switch to another boat with a guide and two boatmen. The guide points out all the interesting areas of Sohoton Lagoon. There are several caves and strange rock formations to see. One of the caves is Crystal Cave. Here, you have to swim under the rocks to come up inside the cave. This was very cool. The highlight for me was the jellyfish sanctuary. Here you get to see and swim with thousands of jellyfish. I enjoyed this the most of our entire vacation. Sohoton Lagoon is a must-see if you are going to Siarago Island.

Mist and Calm Views🌅
Seaside Serenity Awaits: Rejuvenate at the Tranquil Beach 🏖️🌄
Embrace the peaceful rhythm of nature where emerald hills meet calm seas—a haven perfect for unwinding and soaking in stunning natural vibes.
Start your morning with a mindful walk along the shoreline for the best sunrise views, catching the soft glow as clouds drift over emerald slopes. Kick back on the sand to listen to gentle waves, or bring a journal to capture the moment’s serenity. If you’re feeling active, stroll closer to the green hills for panoramic shots—especially lovely during early cloudy hours when the mist creates a dreamy backdrop for photos with lush trees and quiet waters.
When the sun begins to set, find a spot near the water’s edge for magical twilight colors reflecting on the surface—this is prime Insta-worthy time! Don’t forget your camera or phone; the vivid hues and silhouette shots looking toward the green hills are unbeatable.
Practical tips: Pack a light rain jacket, as the weather here can quickly shift from sunny to drizzly (trust me, it’s part of the charm!). Waterproof shoes help if you plan to wander near any river mouths or ponds. For a truly relaxing day, arrive early to enjoy the tranquility before the area gets livelier.
Precautions: Watch for slippery sand after rain, and keep your valuables safe—water can sneak up fast on the shoreline. Respect local nature guidelines and stick to marked paths if you explore near trees or riparian zones.
