This is my second visit to Lisbon, Portugal. Last time, I didn't have much time, so I just took a quick look around. I spent a lot of time photographing the sights from the outside and didn't actually visit them. The Belém Tower is one of those sights I regret not visiting! So, I absolutely have to make it a must-see this time! Portugal is incredibly crowded during summertime! We stayed in the Belém district, and groups of tourists started pouring in at 10 a.m., creating long lines for many attractions. We started queuing at 12 p.m. and waited about an hour and a half before we even got in! To avoid the crowds, I recommend arriving at 9 a.m.; after 10 a.m., you'll be surrounded by groups of tourists! The Belém Tower (Torre de Belém) is an iconic landmark and a must-see attraction in Lisbon. A 16th-century port fortress, it's a symbol of Portugal's Golden Age and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. The architectural style blends exotic elements, Moorish and Arab art, resulting in the Manueline style. The Belém Tower is a classic and representative example of this style, with unique features that are well worth a visit. 📷😍💕 Many areas within the tower are beautiful, but my favorite is the first-floor terrace. 🥰 It was sunny and perfect for taking beautiful photos! It is used to commemorate the glorious achievements of Portugal in the Age of Exploration in the 15th century. It can be said to be the starting point of the Age of Exploration. The Monument to the Discoverers is shaped like a sail setting out to sea, with huge stone statues on the left and right wings, depicting famous navigators, navigators and missionaries of the Age of Discovery. There are a total of 32 statues of lifelike figures. Inside the monument is an exhibition room, with an entrance ticket costing €10. There are documentary screenings and a rooftop observation deck. Personally, I think it's okay. You can just take some photos outside and take some time to visit the Belem Tower and Jerónimo Monastery nearby. I stayed in Lisbon for 3 days, including 2 full days and 2 half days. Although I didn't enjoy myself to the fullest, I have visited all the highlights. In summary, Lisbon is worth the money, with good food, fun and high cost performance‼ ️ Belem District: Jerónimos Monastery, Monument to the Discoverers, Belém Tower, and Belém Egg Tarts are must-visit spots. They are not far from each other and can be visited on foot. An afternoon is enough to visit them. Note⚠️The monastery is closed every Monday. We happened to be there on a Monday, so we could only take pictures outside. The building is very beautiful. Belem Tower is a good place to watch the sunset. Loved my time at MAAT! The museum is composed of three main parts. The first is located in the old power plant (Tejo Power Station), the garden (which I didn't explore much), and the new building. The museum tends to focus on quality rather than quantity. They have a total of 3-4 exhibits, but they are quite large in scale. The new building itself is beautiful, a strange space that is long and narrow without straight lines. What exhibitions you get to see depends on your luck, as this space requires something dramatic. It reminds one of the Guggenheim in Bilbao or the Tate Modern in London. At the top of MAAT, there is a lovely terrace offering stunning views of the Tagus River and its bridges, along with a nice café. Behind the building, there is a bridge leading to the street, connecting to nearby tram and bus stops, making it convenient to combine your visit with other major attractions in the Belém area, such as the Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, National Coach Museum, and the famous Pastéis de Belém. If you are staying in Lisbon for a few days, a visit to MAAT is highly recommended.
